Would you believe: Robert Mitchum was in the movies for 55 years. He was nominated for an Academy Award exactly once, for "Best Actor in a Supporting Role" in 1946. He didn't get it.

Review: The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973).

Great post-noir film. I have all my digits crossed that someone will restore and release THE YAKUZA,another of his great 70s folks.

Lots of great actors dont win awards. Those are generally reserved for boring movies about murder.

One of the best, and part of the inspiration for the great Star Trek episode, 'Balance of Terror.'

I recognized this picture but couldn't put my finger on the movie until you posted. You're right, really great movie.

It followed on the success of the 1943 submarine thriller:

Only to be followed the next year in 1958 by another great sub movie:

For my own favorite, no sub movie ever grabbed me like the first time I saw Das Boot in german with english subtitles:

That's it! Yes cute and predictable but I'm always a sucker for movies about food preparation.

The 100 Foot Journey (2014). Directed by Lasse Hallstrom. Starring Helen Mirren, Om Puri, Manish Dayal and Charlotte Le Bon. Produced by
Juliet Blake, Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey.

A feel-good movie that borders on fantasy. A young cook has a meteoric rise to Michelin chef status. Has a Disney-ish feel which is no surprise since it was released by Touchstone Pictures.

Mirren turns in a good dependable performance and Dayal and Le Bon were engaging and attractive - especially Le Bon who has an interesting face that ranges from average to beautiful depending on the scene - reminds me a bit of Winona Ryder.
