Ghost in the Shell 2.0 (you will note the version number). I have the Blu-ray of this one, and to be honest I prefer the original version more. (And even if the pic isn't from that feature, the series itself is immediately identifiable.)

Correct! Not to be confused with Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (2004). And the series continues...

This is the 2008 revision of the 1995 original. (I would have accepted the base name without qualification). Some of the graphics have been modified to give a more 3D look, but I know many fans prefer the traditional look of the original. I don't have a right to an opinion: manga and anime are such a large universe I have only lightly explored.

The DVD I have of GITS 1995 with DTS ES 6.1 as well as DD EX 6.1 makes great use of the rear channels. Sounds incredible.

There's some controversy among fans as to the quality of the US BD, apparently the Japanese release has better translated subtitles.

I haven't finished watching it (started streaming on HBO Go last week), but for someone who grew up around theaters (parents met in San Francisco small rep theater in the 1950s), it brings back memories. Interesting, too. But I think if you're not interested in actors and acting, theater, etc., it's either intriguing or profoundly boring.

I can watch Naomi Watts or Emma Stone doing just about anything. Washing dishes, flossing teeth, shopping online. Anything.

A good explanation of why I found this film difficult to sit through and excruciatingly self conscious.

BTW, I also thought Her was one of the best films of last year as well. I didn't recognize NorthSky's screen shot, but I recall it now.

Hard to forget some of the visuals in this one, they stay with you. Not the least of which is this:

Its a film that stands the test of time. Not a great transfer for BD though, much of it looks over-exposed.
