Name this movie. Shouldn't be too hard. Here's the hard part....

Spoiler!

If you know the location, name another movie that had a critical, special moment only a few hundred feet away (in the direction that we're looking). Extra credit for that, at the discretion of the thread scorekeeper. (Yes, I grew up in this neighborhood, 2 blocks away. Spent a lot of my adolescence and teen years in this very store.)

No research for 48 hrs please, as per the rules.

Sorry guys, the image showed up in preview and post, but the attachment was from another post that ... got deleted ... so the attachment didn't stay with my profile.

I saw the image last night but this morning I don't. Quoting the message reveals the image URL but when I try to open it directly I get an "invalid attachment" page.

I've seen this error before, but I forget what causes it.

Derp, then I made another mistake again. Double-fixed.

LEON THE PROFESSIONAL. Natalie Portman and the incomparable Jean Reno. And Gary Oldman playing a very bad man.

I claim the point as I recognized the actors before looking at the filename (honest), and ... none of you identified it. Lizrussspike, it's a nice touch that Bill does, returning to edit the post once a correct guess is posted, wrapping the title in SPOILER tags. It's a helpful hint that one need not scroll down to check if it's been guessed, it's clear in the original post. Just a suggestion, not an edict.

I assume the movie image is All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records.

As for the extra credit... Bullitt?

Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Yes, this is the San Francisco Tower Records looking up Columbus from Bay St. towards North Beach (thank you, road sign), and the Transamerica Pyramid just visible behind a building.[1]

This particular vantage point is looking up Columbus towards Chestnut (home, sweet home) and Bimbo's 365 (don't ask; Google it), the intersection where stuntman Bill Hickman (hotshot driver, playing a hitman) downshifts his Charger, makes an illegal left turn, and Frank Bullitt (Steve McQueen, hotshot driver, playing a cop) gives chase, beginning one of the classic car chases in film.

The building with the flat overhang roof is seen in both views.

I only realized this when I bought the BD, and was watching, and realized that they're motoring steathily right pass the North Beach Playground where I played, the Public Library where Miss Jackson checked out my books, Guitar Center where I bought my first drum set (and a drum case I still have),... then "holy cats that's Bimbo's" when the chase starts.

[1] I would've given credit if someone had said Vertigo. Though Scotty's apartment on Lombard St. (across from Sarah B. Cooper middle school) would be off to the right, it's not "in frame."

Saw this on Amazon Instant Video recently. A Crack In The World. Better film than descriptions hint. Some real adult stuff happening in it with scientist Dana Andrews fighting off cancer with dangerous x-ray doses while keeping it secret from his lovely wife and preparing for a momentous scientific stunt of firing a nuclear bomb rocket into the earth's crust or mantle or something, to unlock the geothermal power locked within the mantle. This is not Professor Lindenbrook. She shows up, then her very handsome, virile, healthy, did I mention handsome ex-lover and scientist shows up to plead with Andrews NOT to fire the rocket. Then things get interesting when he launches a nuclear bomb into the world ... and guess what...? Plot thickens while earthquake and lava flows rage. The ending doesn't pull punches (though it does stretch believability). Pretty plausible. Worth seeing.

Out recently from Twilight Time video (and I believe Screen Archives Entertainment is having a sale right now on many TT titles).

One of the actors was later on Hill Street Blues as a regular. I don't remember his name.

Derp. I somehow thought, "Oh, James McEachin." Anyone remember the Levinson & Link NBC Mystery Movie series, Tenafly? Didn't last long. One of the few TV series of that era to star a male African-American protagonist. The other that year? Shaft with Richard Roundtree. (drops mic)
