The title of the movie is the German word for bright.

There's about 5 words that can be used for 'bright' in German. Most of them are 20 syllables long eek.gif

Hell is a 2011 German-Swiss post-apocalyptic film directed by Tim Fehlbaum. It tells the story of a group of survivors in post apocalyptic Germany in the year 2016, when solar flares have destroyed the earth's atmosphere and temperatures have risen by 10°C. I can't argue there since this ground has been trod before most recently in The Road and The Book of Eli. However I thought it was interesting how the producers and director were able to squeeze out a fairly entertaining film given their modest budget with a cast of relative unknowns. The winner here was the cinematography that added the needed atmosphere for the story to succeed. I watched the streaming version on Netflix back in January. If you like movies in this genre it's worth a look.

The main character does call himself "Sanjuro" and he (or someone much like him) returns in the later film by that name.

Johnny Depp as the world's greatest lover and mental patient. For anyone who hasn't seen it (is that everyone here?) it's just so-so. A very sweet semi-fantasy.

The second clip is indeed Talisa Soto, although I don't remember her from anything else. I saw Licence to Kill not long ago but didn't recognize her.

The third clip is of Tiny Lister, who was President of Earth in another life.

That's one of those movies that I never got around to seeing because it seemed the general consensus was "meh".

Righto! I knew this 1956 film from its reputation but never bothered to watch it until a few nights ago. It's often cited as the film that launched Brigitte Bardot into the worldwide sex symbol she became. She had made several lesser known movies before And God Created Woman which was directed by then husband Roger Vadim. The movie is famous for all of its naughty bits but it is pretty tame by today's standards. The plot involves a love rectangle, two brothers, a wealthy middle-aged businessman and an 18 year old orphan played by Bardot (she was actually 21 or 22 at the time of filming). While the story seems far-fetched and the acting stilted the cinematography is quite nice. The theme that women should be subservient to men helps to date this movie. I'll have to admit I labored through this film (especially the second act) to finish it but at least I can check it off my to-do list. I watched the streaming Criterion Collection version on Hulu+.
