This would work for a caption contest ("You lost them ALL?") but instead I will say...

I found the movie production a little rough around the edges but a good first time effort by Saudi director Haifaa al-Mansour. She is the first female director in Saudi Arabia, not exactly a hot-bed for film-making. It was submitted for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars but it didn't make the cut.

The story is not very complex. What I found interesting was the look at the Saudi culture especially how females are regarded and treated.

While the film may not be for everybody AVS reviewer Ralph Potts gave it a glowing review.

Final Thoughts:

Wadjda comes from the mind of writer/director Haifaa Mansour and is a superbly crafted dramatic film that through the eyes of a child speaks to the human condition via a rewardingly drawn landscape that beats to a culturally different but universal drum. It comes to Blu-ray Disc from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment featuring excellent high definition video, crystal clear lossless sound and insightful supplemental material. I thoroughly enjoyed Wadjda and give it my highest recommendation.

Correct. I reviewed this a while ago, although the thumbnails there are from a very modest quality dvd: Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974)

The Twilight Time Blu-ray is miles ahead in quality, and has a lively commentary track by three film scholars.

I don't know how obscure this film is, so I'll give all my images at once. (My mental process: if I've never heard of it before, it must be obscure, right?)

That's a tough one.
I think I recall seeing the 1st frame or the male actor before but can't place either.
Let me noddle on it.

Nope. I own the 5-hour extended cut on DVD. Recognized the wardrobe immediately.

It's criminally under seen IMHO. I really enjoy the ideas and the challenge of it all.

Looks interesting.
Is it in English or German with subtitles?
No Bluray I assume
Where would one find the directors cut?
I see one is available for download

It's mostly in English, but has a couple of scenes with French dialogue.

The director's cut was released on DVD in Italy a number of years back. Long out of print. The French scenes are not subtitled, but there aren't many of those and you can figure out the gist of the scenes from the context.

I can't comment on streaming or download options. Haven't seen those.

It's an interesting but flawed movie in both versions. The shorter theatrical cut is really a mess and received terrible reviews when it opened. The extended cut plays better. It's a weird, fun road movie set in the near future. The shorter cut loses a lot of the idiosyncratic stuff and focuses on the "sci-fi" aspect, which is the weakest part.

It helps to treat it as a miniseries and break it into three chunks. That's how it played on European TV, and the long cut has clear division points for this.

Star Solveig Dommartin wrote some of the screenplay. (A lot of the movie has an improvisational feel.) She was also featured in Wim Wenders' masterpiece Wings of Desire. She had a tragic life and died young.

Interesting.

So, you're saying that V'ger's guess "Lords of Salem" is incorrect.

Yet, here is a weblink to a site that shows this picture associated with the very same Rob Zombie flick, The Lords of Salem" (look down to the middle of the page):

Sometimes I've noticed Google image search will put a pic that doesn't belong. It does look like LOS though. Such a Kubrick-ian style horror film. Worth a watch for genre fans.
