I think his PR guy has been working overtime...

Lucas wasn't much more of an indie director himself when SW was released.

Yep, but Whedon had more experience than this dude.
And however unlikely, JW delivered the goods...big time.smile.gif

I certainly don't discount experience; however, that doesn't necessarily mean he isn't up to the task. I would trust that Disney would have a very good handle on if any given director is capable. Additionally, I think that having limited experience doesn't mean a more experienced director can't be brought in as an advisor or consultant. Assuming he's no Spielberg but still highly capable, I'd personally be more interested in knowing if he's a SW fan or not. I think it's just as important to have a balance of experience and project respect.

My thought had more to do with whether Disney would RISK bringing someone in like that, considering it is the legendary STAR WARS and considering we are talking about a gigantic and expensive production.
From a business POV, it wouldn't be wise.
Besides, I am sure they still are smarting from the John Carter failure.wink.gif

I heard a rumor that Vader will be in the Disney movies. So i hope they will not do a resurrection from the grave. They better make stories which are parallel in the timeline to the old trilogy. The main heroes are not needed and i wouldn't like to see new actors playing Luke, Han and Leia.

Sure Disney would rather recover as much of their investment as possible sooner rather than later. But the mindset and business strategy will be to sustain the franchise for ongoing revenue. Best case scenario, the next three films are monster hits whereas each film could earn $1B. That popularity alone will propel other franchise sales and theme park events toward the $1B mark as well. Therefore, "it's possible; however, unlikely" that Disney could recoup their investment within 10 years. Throw in Indy and ILM revenue and you'll realize this could become a cash cow in a relatively short amount of time.

They already created the Star Wars Holiday Special 34 years ago. I can't imagine anything Disney would do that would be worse than that.

Agreed.

However, it is important to remember the biggest core of SW fans are older farts like me and we already have one foot in the grave....

Aw c'mon! You got 10 years left in you, right?!

Frankly, rather than natural attrition, I'd be more concerned about another re-edited, re-modified, re-"whatever you want to include" version of the OT giving us all heart attacks than not living to see the next three installments biggrin.gif

That's where I was headed. If they have no rights to broadcast EpIV, they can probably do it this way. Or the Ewoks are pretty furry and cuddly. How much has The Lion King And Shrek raked in on Braodway and traveling shows? You think Disney will leave that kind of cash on the table? It's never too early to indoctrinate the 6 year olds.

I'm not sure either. I just remember introducing my first to the OT (on VHS) about 8-9 years ago and he loved it! Still does along with little brother. The key difference these days is there is so much to compete with their attention (as opposed to what we had, or at least, I had back in the late 70's). So the luster of SW isn't quite as lasting as each week there's a new movie, a new video game, a new tv show; however, at the mention to my kids that a new SW movie was coming in a few years they were excited to hear about it. And a recent trip to Disney wouldn't have been complete for them without going to the Jedi camp to fight Vader. So it still has its appeal I think and "younglings" I'm sure will still catch on.

agree more or less. took my 2 boys to the prequels and they liked them a lot. but their interest in star
wars have left them now that they're in their mid to late teens.

they won't even watch the bds with me:confused.gif

Star Wars reminds me of Aerosmith. I remember listening to their 1st two albums with friends, when nobody else had no idea who they were,,,A great band, destined to be cult heros, as nasty as the stones but with better chops...and then they got huge. Suddenly it was all about being big stars, pandering to the public until what had been inventive became a tired formula that was barely listenable. The guy who sang "One Way Street" on American Idol, for cripes sake...

Star Wars, same thing. Trying to appeal to the largest audience by giving them what you think they want instead of just following your heart. Ending up with dreck. The most important thing about the next film is that it be good as a standalone.

"There is no truth. There's just what you believe."

I have no problem with this.

Why? Because the starwars universe is just like the Marvel universe. Do you expect only one Marvel movie every 2 or 3 years? No. We have Ironman, Cap, Hulk, ect.

Same thing here. A Bobofet side movie would be awesome. Or Knights of the Old Republic. Or tales of Yoda.

Boba Fett is one of my favourite characters but I dont think a side movie with him would work. He just work better as a side character. Making him a lead will destroy to much of the mysterie around the character and also remove some of his badass factor.
