Just got back from seeing this under the radar, to me at least, indie film. I loved every minute of it. It is a coming of age high school comedy drama, which follows Charlie, a troubled incoming freshman, played by Logan Leman, and Charlie's two senior friends, Patrick, a gay class clown, and the beautiful Sam, played by Emma Watson, of Harry Potter Fame. The film was written and directed by Stephen Chbosky, who wrote the novel upon which the film is based.

Although Wallflower may sound like a typical tale of teenage angst it turns out to be much more. It is not only funny, it is also dark and it moved me on occasion. Wallflower was a pleasant surprise, one of the best films I have seen this year. Highly recommended, 9 Stars out of 10.

Excellent film. When a movie pulls your emotions from one extreme to the other, brings one to tears, laughter and more...it succeeds....and then some. Great acting, story and moving film. THe only detriment will be the PQ when released on Blu.

The book is good, too. A good adaptation.

Saw this tonight on BD from NF. Very, very nice, took me by surprise.

Eve: I thought I was through getting involved with men who were trouble. Falling in love on a look. I can't look at you.

Mickey: You have perfection about you. Your eyes have music. Your heart's the best part of your body. And when you move, every man, woman and child is forced to watch.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not currently a NF subscriber but I created a Wishlist entry to record the film on my TiVo when it plays on HBO or Showtime.

Caught this over the weekend on my quest to rent every Blu-ray disc Redbox has to offer apparently; actually, noticed it was shot on film before renting and that added to the intrigue for me to see how it looked on Blu-ray.

I lean conservative on the topic of homosexuality; so, this didn’t really ‘speak to me’ in regard to the theme dealing with that topic, but the storyline dealing with the main character’s mental illness and his struggles to fit in were less ideologically adverse and compelling to find sympathy for.

This was my introduction to Emma Watson too btw. I noticed on my Twitter feed that she’s up for some role in a movie about 50 Shades of Grey? I haven’t read the book, but I gather it’s some sort of sexual fantasy thing for women? Emma must be set to play a pretty steamy role I’m assuming then.

I graduated high school in ’89 myself; so, I was tuned into all the little cues of the era – which was another draw to see this flick. Emma herself struck me as a carbon copy of a 90s Winona Ryder with some Ally Sheedy channeled in a few scenes, but I wouldn’t say she ripped them off or anything. I’ll be keeping an eye out for her in the future.

I’ve seemed to be catching a lot of the ‘island of misfit toys’ themed movies lately, but this definitely had its own unique twists and turns on the theme.

Took a little while to grab me but ended up really enjoying this. Best teen drama I've seen since Adventureland and the soundtrack was just as good.

I watched this one just now, and it really whacked me. Very well done, and I agree about Adventureland. It's similar in spirit to that, and Adventureland is a favorite of mine and this one probably will become one now as well.

I loved Adventureland too, 8 Stars out of 10, and agree that its quirky sweetness was similar to what we saw in The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

I went back and watched the extras before I went to sleep and I was getting weepy just watching some of the deleted scenes. There was a lot of good stuff in there, dropped I pressume for tone and tempo reasons.

Adventureland has a great atmosphere to it, it's really well done. And Kristen Stewart looks lovely as well, which doesn't hurt.

I didn't know Kristen Stewart was in this one, I thought it was Emma Watson.

Oh, yeh, I was talking about Adventureland in that case. It is Emma Watson in this one, and she's not bad either, by any stretch of the imagination. But Kristin is more my type. Not that they are going to be mud wrestling over me any time soon or anything.

Although Kristen Stewart is looking a little high mileage these days for a beautiful girl of tender years, she looked great in Adventureland and was wonderful in it. To stay on topic, I thought Emma Watson was terrific in Perks, too.

It is interesting that Stephen Chbosky got the opportunity to take his book to screenplay to director. First time out does a great job. Fine film although the main actors were clearly older than the teen parts they played. Although all of the cast did a splendid job clearly Logan Lerman's character and acting carried the film. His best role so far.

I re-watched this one again last night, and third time around it still wasted me. That pretty much puts it in rarified company in my book. Something about it just speaks to me at a fundamental level. Some people can just put atmosphere on the screen and some can't, and this one has oodles of atmosphere.

You won't regret it. In fact, I've been considering buying the BD now that it is less that $15 at Amazon.

After reading the reviews of fellow members whose opinions I respect, I had NF send me a copy and watched tonite.

I can now see what all the praise is about.
This is a VERY fine movie...one I won't soon forget.

Initially, I thought this was just another teeny flick....
Oh, contraire....only mature adults can really grasp the subtleties here.

This is a gutsy, tough movie by Mr. Chbosky....
IF it doesn't work, the blame all falls on him.

Hermoine Emma Watson is nothing short of Terrific.

Will be adding this to the collection.smile.gif
