Well, I did watch SILENT NIGHT (the remake of SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT) and the Xmas episode of AMERICAN HORROR STORY the same evening!

But my standards still remain:

BLACK CHRISTMAS and

BATMAN RETURNS ("Give the Constitution a rest...it's Christmas." "Good will towards men...and women.")

Not quite tongue in cheek as some of the Syfy movies are. But it's not trying to be blatantly scary either.

I like them both but would rank the original as number one. smile.gif

My wife got me to watch this, it's very family friendly. I had dismissed this movie last year when it came out as just another animation but it's actually quite entertaining. An update of the Santa legend. There is also a 3D version.

Picked this one up as a rental the other night. Oddly, I had never heard of it before. Agree, thought, that it IS quite entertaining and funny. My wife and I enjoyed it immensely, as we are also both fond of British humor (and accents). Good stuff! Thanks for the suggestion! smile.gif

Watched Polar Express in 3D. Had about 90 minutes between the 50 other things trying to get done before the holidays, so I sat down and fired it up. As soon the Express left the house near the begining, LOGANESS poked her head in, watched for a couple of minutes and said, "It's too hard watching all blurry", so I handed her my glasses and made her sit down and I grabbed the other glasses. She ended up sitting through the rest of it. I guess that says SOMETHING about it.

short and pretty cool:

"The Insects' Christmas" is a Russian stop-motion animated short from 1913. The film was made by entomologist/puppet maker/animator Ladislav Starevich who studied insects in such great detail that he dissected and pulled apart every appendage and reconstructed their fragile bodies into malleable stop-motion puppets. Starevich did this to photograph and study their movements. "The Insects' Christmas" is a fairly tale involving Father Christmas spreading holiday cheer to everyone, even the smallest of creatures.

Here's one that we used to watch back in the 80's. Not sure why it fell off our radar but I'll introduce my niece to it in a few years:

At least one scene I recall from the original (Linnea Quigley's demise) is recreated for the remake.

As a man-child, I had to open my gift early....

What a surprise this is! eek.gif

An excellent horror movie, definitely makes my Best Of The Year New Horror movie list.

Cleverly shot, with particular emphasis on Christmas colors...somebody was actually thinking here.wink.gif
Not once do you forget what season it is.

PQ of the BD is excellent, with great shadow detail.
AQ is fine.

There is only one problem that jumped out at me: Malcom McDowell.
He is incredibly bad here....completely miscast.
Although some of his dialog isn't the greatest, he is just horrid...it really is embarrassing.

If you can look past the McDowell Mess, this movie is good fun on every level.

Well, let's see. The usual suspects with a few surprises:

"Holiday Inn" (1942)
"White Christmas" (1954)
"Die Hard" (1988)
"Elf" (2003)
"A Christmas Story" (1983)
"A Christmas Carol" (2009)
"National Lampoon Christmas Vacation" (1989)
"The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993)
"Santa Clause 2" (2002 - Simply because I think Elizabeth Mitchell is hot)
"Scrooge" (with Albert Finney) (1970)
"Scrooged!" (with Bill Murray) (1988)
and "Polar Express" (2004 - I really hated the animation when I first saw it but it has since grown on me over the years.)

"I am NOT suffering from insanity... I happen to be enjoying myself!"

I'm still not too sure about this one. The animation still kind of freaks me out; even after several viewings (kids). Didn't watch it this year....yet. Stay tuned. frown.gif
