Nah, Pacific Rim is well worth a rental. It is often funny and even moving once or twice. Its weakness is that some of its attempted comedy was anything but funny. Still, thanks to del Toro's skills, it looked and sounded great, and Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba were terrific. 7 Stars out of 10.

Don't do that! IF nothing else, you will love it from a HT/technical perspective. It's a total check your brain at the door flick, but it is one hell of a ride in the HT. cool.gif Hell, I've watched it 3 or 4 times now since getting the blu. Not sure if you like 3d or not, but probably my favorite 3d transfer overall of 2013 as well, but even if you just watch the 2d, it is great brainless fun when the mood strikes IMO.

At least give it a rent though when you are in the mood for some mindless fun that will give your A/V system a workout.

I agree a great mindless film which delivers great AV.

Even though it is 16x9 aspect, I would put this on the short list of funnest, combined AV for 2013 presentations in the Cabo theater. biggrin.gif

Lol. I'd be late to my own funeral.biggrin.gif

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The A/V is top notch. Throw in a few nekkid chicks and this is picture of the year, hands down. Just give Del Toro the Oscar now.

Hmmm, I guess Planet Wabo doesn't have much of a cineplex these days....

Giggety-goo.

Now we return Oink to his regularly scheduled Twilight marathon. Followed by an encore presentation of Mystic Pizza. biggrin.gif

Hey, easy there, man! I liked Mystic Pizza. There are a few chick flicks out there that are actually pretty good. Hell, I liked Fried Green Tomatoes too. The Twilight films, however, do not qualify. I read the first book and when I'd finished wondered why I had wasted my time on it. Obviously, then, haven't seen any of the Twilight films. I also wasted my time reading 50 Shades of Gray, so what does that say about my judgment. smile.gif More seriously, loud and dumb (think Pacific Rim) movies have an exponentially better chance of catching and holding my attention than 95 percent of all the chick flicks ever made.

Throw Admission on the keep pile. Paul Rudd does his very best to keep Tina Fey from killing this touching little story of an academic pulling her head out of her arse for the first time in her life. He's truly a gift to our age.

I finally gave this one a rental last night via Vudu. We actually enjoyed it. I'm sure proper expectations helped (giant mechanical suits battling giant creatures...not going to be a best picture nominee), but it was quite entertaining. Audio was good (hard to judge sometimes on Vudu since it's streamed), but some of the dialog seemed violently ADR'd or something.

Stephen.

Chances are very good that I was drinking when I posted the above.
