I think M Bay is perhaps slowing down and wants to do movies that don't require big budgets and robots all the time. And if so that's quite alright with me because this was not bad at all.
It's was a bit long and dragged but I guess perhaps Bay wanted to be true to the story had to be told to it's full detail. I laughed many times which meant the movie did it 's job because I don't laugh easily. Bay was able to get the most out of the Rock and Walberg in a non-action movie and made them legitimately believable and funny "when" it had to be. There were some really funny bits and dialogue.
Hate Bay or not, his movies always looked great stylistically and you feel you're watching a movie with quality production and that's very important to me. A movie should look like a movie if you know what I mean. If I'm correct this is Bay 1st dive down comedy and I say he did a great job and don't hesitate to recommend it for a fun time. Note there is some violence and blood from the torture and "Texas massacre" type scenes so it may not be for all ages.
