Holy Hell, I never knew this thread existed
I am a big metal fan and am thrilled to have stumbled on this thread! I have been a long time fan of Fear Factory since I first heard them on the soundtrack for Mortal Kombat. Zero Signal is still probably my favorite FF song and Demanufacture is one of my fav albums ever. Obsolete is up there too. One thing I really miss from those days is when they would put out a remix album of the previous album. Fear Is the Mindkiller and Remanufacture were a lot of fun. That and the looks you get from people when cranking up the bass followed by Burton C. Bells epic voice is priceless!
I have been an Opeth fan for about a decade now and have seen them in concert 3 times. Luckily they were all small venue so I can get up close. Mikael Akerfelt is quite possibly the most awesome entertainer live. The way he just talks to the crowd and makes you feel involved in the concert is amazing. I don't know how to explain it but an Opeth concert is just a special experience. I can't wait for what their next "observation" will be. Though I do hope he brings some of the growls back. I like Heritage quite a bit, but his growl is just too amazing to not do any more.
I don't know if this has already been covered since I haven't made it through all the posts on this thread yet, but If you haven't listened to them yet, check out the band Bloodbath. It has half of the current lineup of Opeth (Mikael and Axe) but with a more death metal flavor. Good stuff. Start with 'Breeding Death'.
I am also a long time fan of Amorphis. with the exception of 'Far From The Sun' and to a lesser degree 'Am Universum' I love all their stuff. 'Circle', IMHO is the weakest of the discography with Tomi Joutsen on vocals, but it wasn't bad and certainly better than the other two stated. I listen to these guys all the time and can't get enough of em.
I have just recently become a fan of Amon Amarth. These guys are pretty brutal and kick ass. I saw them this summer at Mayhem Festival and they were awesome! In fact, almost all of the main stage acts were awesome. I say 'almost' because for me Mastodon almost ruined it. I noticed that there are several Mastodon fans on here and that's great, but for those who were saying that they put on a great show, this was definitely not one. In fact, I have seen them a total of 4 times now, because they just happened to be playing at the shows I went to see someone else, and I have yet to enjoy one of their shows. I don't know what it is about them but I just can't get into them, and it's not for a lack of trying. Even my friends who went with me were bored during their show. And they are Mastodon fans. Luckily Five Finger Death Punch and Rob Zombie both put on outstanding shows to finish out the night. It was awesome.
OK, enough windiness for now. I am just very excited to get to meet fellow metal-heads, especially on a predominantly home theater and home stereo forum. Please don't take my comments about Mastodon as a bashing or trying to start a fight. That is not my intent at all. If I pissed anyone off then accept my apologies. Just trying to share my experiences. I am going to go back and try to catch up on this thread. It's going to take awhile.
