Also, any love for Annihilator? The new album Feast is pretty good. Jeff Waters is so underrated.

I am loving the revival of Thrash Metal. Onslaught's latest album is pretty badass.

My favorite Fight album is the double CD "Live Insurrection". A great mix of old priest songs with newer Fight stuff. Bruce Dickenson even come on stage for a few songs.

Awesome modern thrash. Voice sounds a little like Metallica.

That Onslaught album sounds good from the few minutes I listened to it. I think I'll pick it up.

All Onslaught albums are good. I like Sounds of Violence a little better than VI. But 'In Search of Sanity' is still my favorite.

Had this one waiting for me when I got home yesterday.

Basically a Fates Warning album with the original Fates Warning vocalist John Arch and guitarist Jim Matheos. The last time these two paired up on a full length album was 1986's "Awaken the Guardian" (a 80's metal classic). I tell you what, John has still got some serious chops, where have you been!

Not sure how I missed this one (released 2010) but I'm glad I caught it as it's really really good.

You can listen to quite a few of the songs (and videos) on their website.

Ridiculously heavy mid-tempo stuff.

Awww sh*t yeah!!!!!

Love repetitive heavy mid paced riffs like that. Makes you make that ugly metal face like something smells horrible - I mean that in a good way though. Good stuff man. smile.gif

LOL. I know exactly what you mean.

If you liked that you might like this too. Is this the perfect name for a brutal metal band or what?

Here's the complete album. At least half the songs are these mid-paced riffs. And the rest is pretty good too. Gives it a little variety.

I don't remember if this band has already been discussed earlier in the thread, but what do you all think of Borknagar? I hadn't really given them much air play as I had only heard their early stuff which is too 'black metal' for me. Not really a fan of that genre per se. However, Borknagar's newest album "Urd" has been showing up a lot on my Pandora 'Viking Metal' station and I am really liking this album a lot! You can still hear the black metal influences but it is kept to a minimum which seems to work here. There is a mixture of vocal types going on here too that I think is really cool. There are some epic progressive style clean vocals, death growls and black screams intermixed throughout. Definitely seems a lot more experimental and I am thoroughly OK with it. There are 3 different vocalists including Andreas Hedlund (AKA Vintersorg who has a band by the same name and I also am getting into quite a bit as well). The album seems very well produced as well. Can't make a good evaluation as I have only listened to it online, not yet on CD. I do think that next paycheck I may be buying this album. From what I can tell, the previous album "Universal" is a lot like this as well but reviews suggest it was not nearly as well produced. I may just have to start working my way backwards. Anyway just looking for others opinions who have experience with this group and see what you think. Here is the song "The Earthling" which is the one I have heard the most on Pandora. The first couple of minutes will make you think this is just a progressive metal piece but then you will have no doubts as to the bands roots in black metal.

From Bork i have Empiricism and it didn't really have much that appealed to me, there may have been a song or two I liked after listening 4 or 5 times.

If you're looking for some new bands for your Viking Metal station add Mithotyn, Einherjer, Kampfar, Falconer (parts of Mithotyn), Falkenbach, Thyrfing, Tyr, and Windir. They are some of my favorites from the genre.

I have actually heard of most of those! biggrin.gif Albeit only recently as that has been playing on my Pandora channel. tongue.gif I do like what I have heard by Falkenbach so far. The others I haven't heard enough yet to form an opinion. Thanks for the suggestions though. I will check into them some more. I have only one song from Empiricism, Soul Sphere, and yeah that is more black metal than I care for. In my opinion Urd sounds much less 'black metal' and IMHO sounds way better. I'm willing to bet that old school Bork fans would blast me for that though. biggrin.gif Eh, to each his own. cool.gif

I have it. It's heavy. It tends toward the chaotic side. Not much of a groove, but I still listen to selected songs, this being one of them.

Nice!!!

I love their song called I, Dementia. Unfortunately I don't see it on Spotify.... may just have to buy that song - however I don't believe in buying individual songs so i'l get the album. Do you know what album has that song?
