I'm watching this today, I liked Drive but didn't fall for all the hype of OMGAH BEST MOVIE EVER OMGAH. I dug the violence but thought Gosling played a nearly voiceless character like the silent protagonists in FPS games.

As much as I love Drive, and I do love it, I'm not one for artsy films that are trying to be obscure, artsy, enigmatic, and are riddled with references, simply for the sake of all of these things. Having said that, I can forgive these, if a movie is beautiful and moving, and especially if the soundtrack and score are great. I'm looking forward to watching this, but have some fears at the same time.

Digging into this now and it's an odd one for sure. A blend of I Saw the Devil and Eyes Wide Shut more thematically and stylistically than plot. The soundtrack is an ethereal mix of synthesizers like Beyond the Black Rainbow and the movie itself might be as approachable. That's to say it won't be for everybody but I found myself intrigued with the setup and execution of each scene.

Not for me. Crap wrapped up in art form is still crap.

What is the point? Could have done it in an hour.

There are much better films to test for colors and contrast (really dark).

Now available from Netflix, though not streaming. Initially watching it was an amazing experience, especially the soundtrack that is unbelievably immersive for a 5.1 DTS HD mix that puts most Dolby Atmos mixes in theaters to shame. Then, there is the commentary by the director. So, saw it and then bought it in BR. Not for the faint of heart and it certainly is not crap, IMHO.

So how about someone explain the scene early on with Mr. Silent watching that whore masturbate, then some arms get chopped, then, well, I don't know WTH that was all about. it makes no sense at all. All I do know is that Kristen Scott Thomas is major MILF.

Get the BR from Netflix and watch the director's commentary. Or rent it from somewhere else.

The rental versions likely don't have the commentary. Most rentals never do. Can anyone confirm what the RED BOX version is?
