Which full length feature movie films are made, with a plot taking place in our own solar system, such as "Red dawn at Io "
- in the last ten years? 2001- 2013.

I am thinking of
Apollo 13
Apollo 18
Red planet
Mission to Mars
Sunshine ( trip to our Sun)

Maybe not
Avatar
Prometheus

And not Star Trek movie,
I know my Star trek wink.gif

Io? You all know that planet, or rather moon, the innermost wink.gif)

Why the restriction that it has to take place in our own solar system, and why only movies less than 10 years old? Those are significant limitations.

Solaris (either version) would qualify if you expanded your criteria a little.

2000 to present wink.gif

Ok, feel free to give older ones, almost all are better movies, the 2001 is maybe the best ever made. Just got 2010, the year we make contact. I had hoped this shiny new blu ray version of 2010 might look as good as the 2001 - but no. It still looks dated.

I want this list because I want to get these films and study the evolution of movie making since Apollo 13 was made.

Is it ok to say, that Apollo 13 was the best movie mankind could make back in 1995, when speaking effects, CGI, blu/ greenscreen, whatever they used to make it good looking?

The use of NASA reduced gravity aircraft, have it been used so extensively later in any movie making??

2012. Whats the best techn scifi in space movie. Prometheus? Sure not the best film, but maybe one of the best sofar, looking at how good looking this film is?

Avatar, not so much in space flying - still the best when we talk of motion capture effetcts?

Ps
Solaris
Well, I know that one, sorry to say, I watched it once, a tad far fetched pshyco melodrama for a Trekkie like me....

I think the constraint on the time period can only foster creativity and get the answers you want.

I'm not a fan of Apollo 13, personally. For someone making a supposed docu-drama about the real space program, Ronnie Howard apparently skipped out on the 7th Grade science lesson where he might have learned that there's no sound in the vacuum of outer space.

The movie is filled with stupid "WHOOSH!! ZOOM!!" noises every time the capsule flies past the camera.

These movies do not take place in our solar system. Are you expanding the range to beyond our solar system?

I have no problem with sound in outer space, or faster-than-light travel, or winged spaceships manuevering in zero-g like Earth aircraft, or any other ridiculous unscientific nonsense, when they take place in fantasy movies like Star Wars or Star Trek.

Apollo 13 presented itself as a docu-drama about real historical events. Yet it plays out like a 10-year-old Ronnie Howard playing with his toy rockets. "ZOOM! WHOOSH!! KA-BOOM!!!"
