No, it was one where he was on stage with a handful of other guitarist VIPs and he completely blew them out of the water.

He can certainly own a stage and deliver a lot of excitement, regardless of whether you like his music or not.

Funny story about Prince - When I went to the 1981 Stones concert at the LA Colosseum, I think it was the Tattoo You tour, Prince was one of the opening acts. I don't think I'd ever heard of them at that point.

Anyway, this was when his band all had these "identities" like one was in surgeons scrubs, long Matrix style coats, and I cant remember what else. SO they start their set and me and my buddies were thinking "this is pretty good". We had all been going to all kinds of clubs and college shows in LA since about 1979 though, and had real open minds when it came to music.

Well It felt like we were the only ones who thought that way. I don't know how long they played, but it wasn't very long. People were yelling and throwing stuff at the stage. We were in the section in front of the stage, no seats, about 30 bodies from the stage. It was pretty ugly. I felt someone grab the back of my shirt and when I looked around, it was a buddy of mine who is like 5'5". He hung on to my shirt for the whole set. When those kind of crowds get moving it gets scary for smaller people.

I felt bad for the band. They were super tight live even back then. I did buy the album soon after that, and I think Prince eventually got the last laugh.

I saw the same Stones tour in Orlando. The B-52's were the opening act and I was kinda into them at the time. Likewise,they made it through Planet Clair and halfway through Rock Lobster before they were pelted off stage.

Very sad that George Harrison wasn't very fond of playing live concerts and touring in his lifetime, because he was really a very good live performer.

Just to quote myself for a repeat for any latecomers, the original post that I felt disappeared on a back page rather fast.

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is one of my favorite Harrison tunes. I think Eric, Paul and the rest did an outstanding job on that tune in the 2002 Concert for George. Here's another version of it though from 1987 that's also pretty great. George is "backed up" by Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Phil Collins, Jeff Lyne, and others on this version.

Small bit of trivia: Eric also played the lead/solo guitar (uncredited) on the Beatles' original 1968 version of this track. He didn't feel like his playing was "Beatley" enough though, so they used an oscillator to add some more "waggle" to it for the final dub.

Up for something "Exotic"............? smile.gif

Not that there is something revolutionary about the music, rather mainstream POP/EDM, but something about this makes it slightly fascinating...............wonder what it is......? wink.gif

Russian POP/EDM girl trio SEREBRO (Серебро = Silver, - existed since in 2007)

Latest video; SEREBRO - "МАЛО ТЕБЯ / MALO TEBYA" (= Little You (?)

SEREBRO - "МАЛО ТЕБЯ" Behind The Scenes video (BTS); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uFDFK1AFNY

SEREBRO - "МАЛО ТЕБЯ / MALO TEBYA" in stripped down "acoustic" version - MTV Christmas Version;
The guitar player has some impressive "twang" in his strings.

Another recent video; SEREBRO - "УГАР" (= Wast (?) or Refuse(?) feat. DJ M.E.G. ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7duSulHL_A
BTS - from the shoot; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TThbVcXLVs

Slightly older song; SEREBRO - "МАМА ЛЮБА / MAMA LUBA" (Mama Lover), just because it is one of the more crazy videos I have seen. cool.gif

There is a English version of this too, but the Russian version is way better.

Some older ok songs;

SEREBRO - GUN; Completely crazy music video filmed spontaneously with mobile phones on a plane going somewhere; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TyNuYts-j8
Original Video to GUN (English Version); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NflOKgfkIg

SEREBRO - "Давай Держаться За Руки" (Let's hold hands(?) Angel Kiss (?); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCoLlpZ6_9s
English version (Angel Kiss); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzoZItE0Pc8
English Dubstep version; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_cFYBrLKek

Always. Nice videos, and nice trancey vibe on some of Serebro's tracks.

Speaking of "exotic" Russian groups... a couple members of this female punk band were recently released after spending 21 months of a 2 year sentence in a Russian prison for "premeditated hooliganism performed by an organized group of people motivated by religious hatred or hostility". This was for an impromptu performance at a Russian cathedral for their anti-government song/video "Punk Prayer" in 2012. (There's an extensive article about this on Wikipedia.) Their main "gripe" seems to be with Putin's policies toward women.

There seem to be alot of guitar fans here, and I wonder if that extends to classical playing as well. (Some people are just put to sleep by it.)

While browsing for Segovia tunes, I ran across this gal, and really liked some of her work. Her style isn't flashy. It's more personal and intimate. And she has an incredibly light touch on the quieter passages. She "melts" into her instrument about as much as any performer I've seen, so it's almost like she's willing the notes from her body, rather than playing them.

All of her recordings appear to be done by amateurs at live performances btw.

This is my favorite recording of hers (though the volume is quite low on this). Her playing is so exquisitely subtle here that it's almost otherworldly.

This is my least favorite of the set... but it's still pretty freakin awesome. Her playing is technically almost flawless on this. But there are some (minor) tuning issues which you can see her trying to correct, and it gets maybe a bit rushed towards the end. An incredibly difficult tune, still with some very nice passages.

Finally, a bit of "flash" from John Williams (the guitarist, not the Star Wars composer/conductor), so you can hear the difference. For shear technical prowess, JW is hard to beat.

Bon Jovi, live from Madison Square Garden.

This is a great concert DVD all around.... blasting it in the theater reminds me of the night my wife and I saw this concert.
