Criterion has just released "Medium Cool" in SD and Blu Ray. This is an amazing film, literally set against the backdrop of that tumultuous year, 1968. I watched the Blu Ray version last night--it still packs a punch after all these years. For a low budget production, the picture quality is excellent and the mono sound perfectly adequate. Like setting the Way Back Machine to 1968...

I can't remember much about Medium Cool but I have long been an admirer of Robert Forster's career. We owe a debt of gratitude to Quentin Tarantino for resurrecting it when he cast Preston in Jackie Brown.

You are thinking about Robert Forster, not Robert Preston.

I'd pay anything to see The Music Man himself in a Tarantino film (although he may have already come close with his character in 'Victor Victoria').

I know Preston mostly from The Last Starfighter, as I grew up with that movie.

Right you are! As my post made clear, I was thinking about Robert Forster but for reasons I can't explain, wrote "Robert Preston."
