I believe this is the version of Hendrix playing "Drivin' South" that was on the bootleg I bought back over forty years ago:

Listen and draw your own conclusions.

Lots here too. I'm not sure a song has ever captured the vibe of era like that song does. I've heard that solo a thousand times but just listened again with a critical ear...it really captures his innovation and creativity as he bounces from one style and tone to the next.

Hope this thread can stay alive, found some great solos here.

Can't believe Tony Macalpine hasn't been mentioned yet, as brilliant as he is...

I can't believe you mentioned that, one of my all time favorite pieces of rock music. And albums. I got in an argument with an FM jock back in the day - he said Hurricane and I said Cortez lol. I love the way his guitar cuts through at the beginning of Hurricane though, but you can't be any more Neil than his solo on Cortez me thinks.

Eve: I thought I was through getting involved with men who were trouble. Falling in love on a look. I can't look at you.

Mickey: You have perfection about you. Your eyes have music. Your heart's the best part of your body. And when you move, every man, woman and child is forced to watch.

Studio: Clapton's solo on while my guitar gently weeps. Every great guitarist has tied to play it himself in their life

Live: Mick Taylor on Love in Vain circa 1971. Will bring tears to your eyes. First solo is on slide and second solo is without. Look at Mick Jaeger's reaction as he can't beleive what he is hearing

A real challenge for a guitar player when the whole song is a mix of riffs, solos and melody in a fantastic tempo. No time for rest.

Sabre Dance by classical composer Aram Khachaturian played in a rock band arrangement by Dave Edmunds, who first recorded this in 1968 with his band Love Sculpture.

Here in a Live version from 1991.

Time to revive this thread...

This whole song is a clinic in jazz guitar, but the section starting around 1:25 is something truly special.
