Is there a list of films that were originally mastered for THX (sound) in theaters anywhere? Can't find anything like this on the official THX website.

Thanks for the reply 67jason. I also ran across that page in my searches. What I think I'm really lookin for though is a list of films originally mixed/mastered for THX presentation in theaters (as opposed to home video), esp. during the 1980's and 90's.

According to the THX website, Return of the Jedi was the first film presented in THX in theaters. There is some difference of opinion on what "presented in THX" could actually mean though. But I believe, in addition to ROTJ, there were a number other films specifically mixed or mastered for presentation in THX-certified cinemas during that time. These were probably done at Skywalker Sound, Sprocket Systems (the precursor to Skywalker Sound), or other post-production facilities with THX-certified soundstages.

The closest I've been able to come so far are the lists of credits for Sprocket Systems and Skywalker Sound on IMDb, and the credits on the Skywalker Sound site. There are alot of productions on the IMDb lists which were never released theatrically though, and most probably didn't receive the full THX treatment. Based on a scan of the lists though (and my vague recollections), I believe these were among the films probably mixed for THX theatrical presentation...

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

A River Runs Through It
Single White Female
Toys

1993
Jurassic Park
Meteorman
Mrs. Doubtfire
The Nutcracker
Rising Sun

1994

Baby's Day Out

1995

Jumanji

Ozarks : Legacy and Legend (IMAX)

Strange Days
Toy Story

Zion Canyon: Treasure of the Gods (IMAX)

1996
The Arrival
Eraser
James and the Giant Peach

Mars Attacks!

Romeo + Juliet

1997

This is just a best guess on my part though, and I'm hoping someone has a more definitive list than what I've been able to dig up so far. According to Wikipedia, THX (or at least the logo) was effectively decommissioned in theaters after August of 1997.
