Went to a screening of this last night. I enjoyed it very very much. There were a couple things I would have changed, but ultimately, I thought it was a very well done film. It was acted well, shot well, and the story was good. Minimal, but still very good. If it weren't based on a true story, I would not have believed some of it, but I plan on buying it when it comes out. I loved the sound of the silenced rifle in it.

I LOVE MOVIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

The sound in the theater I saw it in was great. Not Atmos great, but still great. I don't remember if the bass was particularly prevalent or not though.

The questionable nature of the story doesn't bother me much. I learned a long time ago that any film like Lone Survivor is always more "based on" than it is "a true story." Saw this trailer in the movie theater yesterday and may go see it when it opens. I agree with darthrsg that Mark Wahlberg has a very good track record. The guy is really rather good.

Saw this just now and really enjoyed it. A few parts seemed a little far-fetched so not sure how true it is to the original story. A lot of fast paced action and great fight scenes.

Read the book a long time ago. Awesome book. Cant wait for this film. I find the choice of Marky Mark to play Marcus to be very hypocritical since Marky is anti gun. But I will overlook that to see this movie. I am close friends with a Navy SEAL and have gotten to hear stories such as this first hand and I am just constantly amazed at the bravery and heroism of these warriors.

I know this movie will not let me down.

And I would imagine the movie is very close to what actually happened. Marcus Lutrell was on location during filming and had a ton of say in how the movie was done.

After my post above I saw the 30-minute HBO documentary alluding to what you mention (Marcus being heavily involved in the production). The documentary also revealed how accurate the director Peter Berg wanted the film to be. IIRC Emile Hirsch was anti-gun as well? Can't wait to see it again

I refuse to read it. I prefer to go in as blind as possible and debate the merits or shortcomings afterwards. From the trailer and what I know of the story I think this has great potential.

Wise. If you listen to reviews, tomato critics, and meta whatsits you'll miss out on some good stuff. Marky Mark usually delivers.

Don't worry Kenobi, that article was beyond ridiculous. It was definitely not a "review" of the movie.
Can't wait to see this tonight after reading the fantastic book!!

Uhh, actually it IS a review....in a major publication.rolleyes.gif

Since you find it "ridiculous" without actually seeing the movie yourself, lemme try this again:

Cool, from the headline it looks to be awesome. Lacking political examination is perfect. It kills movies like Elysium and Zero Dark Thirty. Just let Marky Mark be 'Merican.

No argument here.
The story of Luttrell and his team, by itself, shouldn't include politics.
It should be a movie about survival on the battlefield and that's all.

Sorry Oink, I wasn't trying to denegrate the link you posted as it was by definition a review. What I should have said was, "don't worry, it is not a very indepth or insightful review." I just didn;t want Kenobi that by reading it he would really be swayed one way or the other about this movie.

I do not beilieve the author ever read the book as he was questioning things hapening in the movie that are taken directly from the book. He also seemed to think he was going to watch a suspense movie with some sort of twist to it? "As the moniker of a book, it’s OK. But as the title of a suspenseful movie, it’s not quite right, is it, guys?"

My opinion that that review is ridiculous stands. It is after all my opinion. I like Berg, Wahlberg, Foster, Hirsch, Kitsch and Bana. I read and loved the book. I have great respect and admiration for our military, especially our Special Forces. I have a good feeling I will love this movie but we shall see.

I do think it is funny that both review gave the moive a B- while having titles such as, "‘Lone Survivor’
is a
lost cause" and "'Lone Survivor' lacks depth or political examination".

Just my opinion.
Luke

The guy is Movie Reviewer, not a Book Reviewer.
Movies are movies and books are books and rarely do the 2 meet.wink.gif

I think his point is by calling it "Lone Survivor" completely gives the ending away.
FWIW, I think he is right about that.

Although everyone knows what happened to the Titanic, few know (or remember) the Marcus Luttrell story.

Quote:
"‘Lone Survivor’ is a lost cause" and "'Lone Survivor' lacks depth or political examination".
Typical catchy media title...happens all the time.

Agreed with all you said above. I guess I just didn't think that was a very good "review" and gave the reader anything he/she doesn't already know from the trailer.

I'll let you know my "professional" opinion after I see it.tongue.gif
