Most amazingly, the drama and conflicts between the rivaling main characters manages to keep pace with the balls to the wall action sequences. Even if you have no interest in Formula 1 racing, or motor sports for that matter, don't miss one of the best films of the year (to unfortunately have received no Oscar recognition).
This film did the sport justice showing the good and bad sides to it. I'm pretty disappointed with the lack of recognition. The movie doesn't demonize either Lauda or Hunt. It just presents them as they were, while embellishing their disdain for each other for dramatic purposes. That's one of the reasons I like it so much. Lots of grey between the black and white
I could not agree more.wink.gif

Did anyone notice the little homage to Days of Thunder? I think it was at least. The first race where Lauda and Hunt spin, they playing Spencer Davis' 'Gimme Some Lovin'', which reminded me a lot of the montage in DoT near the beginning when Cole Trickle (Cruise) starts his first few races in Nascar (same song, similar cinematic feel).
Yes, I did notice it.cool.gif

You mean 2013! I personally lost interest in F1 after 2010. Was a big fan of BMW Sauber and was ecstatic when Kubica and Heldfield did 1 2 at was it Canada? Was also devastated to see Kubica crash out when he was in third and almost was about to get into second at Australia frown.gif.

I did get to see Heldfield race though at the long beach GP. Endurance racing is my thing now lol. Looking forward to see how Porsche will do after their long break:D

I was a HUGE Kubica fan.
He very easily could have been a WC.

Ultimately, his career will serve as a warning to future F1 drivers.frown.gif

I will. You guys can keep me up to date. Haven't watched a race in 3 years. Before that, watching a race was top priority. I was there in Indianapolis in 2005 for the infamous 6 car race.

I don't buy many BD's, but when I do, I buy racing movies!

Actually, that's not really true, but I am going to add this one to my limited collection which includes The Great Race and Grand Prix.

"LeMans" is a good one too.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

I forgot - I have that one too! The latter two in 1080i HD on D-VHS tape as I recorded them in the pre-HDDVR era. Yes, my Marantz 8300 (rebadged JVC 40k) HD tape deck still works. Inputs firewire (which means it will never record again) and outputs component as it came from the Jurassic pre-HDMI era. Fortunately, my projector has component in, so those still-amazing flicks will periodically live again in my new HT. smile.gif

I went to my first GP last year (Austin) and put together a diary, so to speak, of my experience.
It can be found in last year's F1 thread or I can copy and paste it into this thread if anyone is interested.

Amazon has the Le Mans BD for $16 and the Grand Prix BD for $11.

I bought the Grand Prix BD last year and enjoyed seeing it again, although it was too long, 176 minutes, and its soundtrack and special effects fell short of of that of modern films. Still, I don't regret buying the BD. Jimmy Garner always did good work and, in the immortal words of Roseanne Roseannadanna, "It was rill chip." smile.gif

Considering the screenplay, it's definitely is too long.
Athough more than Le Mans, there really isn't much complicated non-racing drama to this film.
