Was that a guess? If so, nope.

I think I may have brought this thread to a standstill by stumping everyone. smile.gif

No, a new challenge, a quote: "Lenscap".

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, an underrated film if ever there was one!

A love letter to 1930s and 40s fantasy art. You'd think it would have a big fan base.

IIRC, it had a lot of hype before it was released and then fizzled at the box office. I never saw it, so I couldn't say for sure, but I got the impression at the time that the story was lackluster and that word had gotten around that it was neat to look at, but that was about it.

Broken Flowers?

I would guess Rushmore on that one.

As Bill has already hinted, this is Lola Rennt (aka Run Lola Run).

New clue: Movie Backwards The
(There are at least three answers to this, one of them more obvious than the other two. Bonus points to whomever gets all three.)

Reservoir Dogs is not told in reverse chronological order. It has flashbacks, but that's not the same thing.

I believe a 3rd movie told in reverse, at least from the protagonist's perspective, is The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Also, The Sweet Hereafter is sort of told in reverse.

Yeah, I'm sure it's Rushmore too. After re-reading the first clue "Expelled playwright redeemed," I'm ashamed I didn't get it then. It's one of my favorite films of all time, and I know it backwards and forwards.

"Oh, ARE they?" biggrin.gif

Correct. Memento and Irreversible start at the end and work their way systematically back to the beginning. Reservoir Dogs starts at the beginning and ends at the end, with lots of flashbacks in between. Not the same thing.

Not the one I had in mind. Although the character ages backwards, the narrative in the movie progresses in a forward direction.

Like Reservoir Dogs, that's also more non-linear than backwards. The third movie from my clue has the same structure as Memento. In fact, it came first.

Ah. Following. An excellent film.

Does that go backwards? I actually haven't seen that one. Wasn't the movie I was thinking of, in any case. I'll post the answer if no one gets it over the weekend.

So what was your third backwards film?

All right, it appears that no one else is going to get it:

Betrayal
Starring Jeremy Irons and Ben Kingsley.
Directed by David Hugh Jones (84 Charing Cross Road).
Written by Harold Pinter, based on his play.

This movie was the inspiration for the famous 1997 "backwards episode" of Seinfeld, which was called "The Betrayal" and involved a character named Pinter.

New clue:

Empathical bookstore clerk

I'd say "Notting Hill".

Could be Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Different classic film spoiler:

American girlfriend betrayal.

No one's gotten it so far. The first word is a big hint if you know the movie.

2nd clue: Boisterous Beatnik beebop!

Still nobody? Let's try again.

1) Empathical bookstore clerk
2) Boisterous Beatnik beebop!
3) Fred looks old

If you hadn't gotten it, I would have had to really give it away with my next clue: S'wonderfu! S'marvelous!

The age difference between Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire in this movie is very problematic. It looks like she's falling in love with her grandpa.
