Teaser trailer looks quite intense.

Indeed! I didn't expect to be interested in a new Godzilla movie after the 1998 masterpiece, yet.... wink.gif

Just like every generation needs their own Spiderman franchise, every generation needs their own Godzilla. Apparently.

This Godzilla looks to be a lot bigger than the 1998 version. So there's that.

Well, it's called a teaser trailer for a reason. As we all know, it can go really good or really bad. But this IMO is a good start. I expect there to be some (to put it lightly) destruction but please....don't make a movie ABOUT destruction. Man of Steel burned me out on that already.

Love the trailer! With the CGI capabilities of today they should be able to make an awesome Godzilla remake if they actually try - not the kindergarten cop version we got with Mathew Broderick.

What? Godzilla was all about destruction. Wimp. smile.gif Although, I shouldn't get my hopes up. I know they'll throw in some clown and his familly (complete with annoying and screaming child) or somebody that needs saving that we have to endure for way too much screen time. And, no, we don't need a scientist love tryst either. Why can't he just come ashore in LA, destroy everything in his path on his way to Las Vegas and destroy it before they force him to to Hoover Dam with small tactical nukes and then drown him (or so we think....sequel!)

I'm still trying to figure out what's on-screen at the 45 second mark. It doesn't look like classic Godzilla. I wouldn't be happy with a big departure from the classic look. Maybe it's a creature that was killed by Godzilla?

The moment you see the 6-8 arms on the creature, it's pretty obvious that's not Godzilla. So, yeah, maybe it's a creature that Godzilla killed. (Meaning there might be some nice kaiju vs kaiju action in the movie.)

For some reason, the video froze after that scene. Now that I've seen the stuff after the one minute mark, I can see that it's indeed the classic Godzilla look. That's what I was hoping for,.

Heh,
well, pretty much as in the original movie, namely bipedal with dorsal spines, unlike the pathetic '98 version.

I think a lot of people are thinking this looks more faithful and less silly than the '98 version, and that gives a sense of relief.

I dislike re-makes and I am decidedly unimpressed by this trailer.tongue.gif

Even a thin hair can be split. smile.gif

I've been curious how Godzilla would look with updated FX after having to see the rubber-suit stuff all these years.

It's just a trailer of course so who knows how the actual film will turn out, but what I liked about this trailer is to me it did not feel silly or cheesy at all. Had a very dark and grim tone with bodies everywhere, crazy devestation, etc.......I just think if they can somehow catch that vibe for the film in general, it could be great. It has a Cloverfield feel, but better IMO. It will be interesting to see what happens with the actual film though and like Larry says above, it will probably get screwed up with something like some goofy family element, annoying main character, etc......hoping for the best though.

Anyway, here's an encyclopedia of Godzilla leading up to this release (bit long but for those who are not familiar, this should be very helpful).

Our Boy has always been a large slice of cheese.....who can't laugh at those old movies?wink.gif

Regarding his appearance....
FROM WIKIPEDIA: Art director Akira Watanabe combined attributes of a Tyrannosaurus, an Iguanodon, a Stegosaurus and an alligator[19] to form a sort of blended chimera, inspired by illustrations from an issue of Life magazine. To emphasise the monster's relationship with the atomic bomb, its skin texture was inspired by the keloid scars seen on Hiroshima's survivors.

I enjoyed that, thanks. I see I have to view Godzilla a little differently. I remember the 1956 American version describing him as being over 400 ft. tall, but that piece says he's more like 160 ft. Quite a difference.
