That's my take. I'll watch it (someday, in my HT) but I won't contribute to the box office. Don't want to encourage the trend.

I have to admit, I am curious what he did with the story.

I think the only retelling of this story that would satisfy all the religious people would one where Noah was played by this guy:

Well then. I take back my above statement. Maybe this is a trend I do want to encourage, after all. wink.gif

History Channel last year gave us their first two original series. One was 'The Bible', and a high-grossing feature film has already been made from it. I understand evangelicals were well pleased with the work of Mark Burnett and his wife Roma Downey ('Touched By An Angel') and rewardith'ed them with the magi's gift of high ratings. I presume environmentalism was not any part of the plotlines. wink.gif

I never watched any of it, not really my cup of sacramental wine. I preferred the hackin' & slashin' & rough-lovin' of HC's other new series, 'The Vikings'. The former's ratings far exceeded the latter's, of course. What I wonder is what the Venn diagram overlap was of those two audience groups? Not much, I'd guess. Proof that Hollywood (and the History Channel) wants to be all things to all people. Problem is, it might not be possible to accomplish that with one movie, as Mr. Aronofsky and Paramount would have hoped.

Considering that the miniseries featured a Satan who looked exactly like Barack Obama, I would have to say that environmentalism was not one of the chief political agendas behind its making.

Yeah, I had heard about that. Read the denials, no doubt accompanied by off-camera winking. Another reason why I have no use for that show, or the people who made it.

Just saw it this afternoon. Snoozefest. Really nothing redeeming about it. Not even worth a BD rental if 1/2 off at Redbox.

They have your money - Yes?

Any version of this tale these days is....money.

There are still the "I want To See The Special Effects" arguments. Fine, give them money.

Ho-hum. This movie is an epic tale of corniness with especially disappointing CGI, coming from Aronofsky. The actors are dealt a hand and play it as best as they can. Nothing much can save this turkey, nonetheless, it will probably score a big box office success amongst the faithful. Never want to see this again and once may have been one time too many.

Well, it looks like all those religious boycotters frowns are turning into.... really unhappy frowns. First weekend's numbers are in and the U.S. haul is $44 million, with another $34 million internationally. The head of Paramount calls it a "spectacular launch".

So, you know what that means. Hollywood loves a success. Get ready for " Sodom & Gomorrah: The Movie. Just when you thought it was safe to sin!™ " tongue.gif

The movie is wasted on those who don't get Aronosky. He does the same here as he has done before makes you think and asks questions, questions you didn't know you should ask ( or maybe were afraid to). He has been doing this since he made Pi.

"Bring out yer dead!".."Wait I'm not dead yet!"..(Sound Austrian here) "WRONG !!" (You know what happens next..)

Completely agree. It's constantly being compared to The Fountain though which I find super ironic considering those films are each based on very different ideologies...

I kind of liked it. I'd like to see more from him in this vein. It poses some great questions to the characters that many of faith I'm sure have asked or pondered. Too bad the default position is to pile hate on any Christian based anything. It clouds the senses much like some aspects of the religion itself. Is it a perfect movie like Red Dawn (1984)? No. Still worth a watch though.
