Man I saw this yesterday and sent it to my friend calling it the most awesome commercial ever! I don't consider myself a huge Van Dam fan (neither does my friend) but I was blown away by this commercial. I kept asking myself "But why are they driving backwards? I don't get it?" (Watched it at work with no volume). Then I said, no way that's real because those trucks are driving too straight. Then I realized what it was for! *smacks hand on forehead*

Oh yeah, it's never normal to watch a man do the splits under any circumstance IMO. But if there is any "macho" to be gotten out of the ability to do it....Van Damme just demonstrated it! They should have saved this one for the Super Bowl!

It would have been just as impressive if they had been driving forward, IMO. And it wouldn't have raised the question it raised in my mind: have they simply reversed the film?

Probably why I don't work in advertising. tongue.gif

Usually watching those rigs drive backwards is like putting spaghetti through a needle.

Either way, it's fun to see Mr. Van Damme do one of his famous moves at his age in any
camera direction. Can't deny conditioning. Very few with his muscle mass can pull it off.

One small thing to enjoy in older Arnold films was his insistence on at least one strength
stunt in each film. This was his way of honoring sport. Van Damme carries this tradition
in his own way. Most of the films are forgettable, but the tip of a hat to sport was always nice
if you appreciate such things.

I did some reading, Volvo are showing that the their new dynamic steering is extremely stable and precise while in reverse, mainly you set a course and the truck will hold that line.http://www.volvotrucks.com/trucks/uk-market/en-gb/trucks/volvo-fm/key-features/Pages/volvo-dynamic-steering.aspx
I don't work for Volvo, I just thought people might be interested to read how it works.

No it isn’t. You didn’t read the links that were provided.

When reversing: Perfect control without strain. Reversing with a fully laden truck is one of the most challenging and trying aspects of the job. Especially where you need to focus every bit of your attention on the surroundings. Not so with Volvo Dynamic Steering. You now reverse with perfect precision – almost without effort. And as soon as you let go of the wheel, it automatically returns to neutral, reducing the strain even further. Furthermore, if you need to reverse long distances, here’s something new. The course stability is so great that you can reverse a truck and trailer more than a hundred metres without drifting off course.

I can admit Tatum is funny. He did pretty good in 21 Jumpstreet despite being crippled by Jonah Hill.

I'm gonna guess - these trucks cost 200k or more

Right?

I would expect it to drive itself with little help from the driver.
