Always a good idea to run a search for a topic before you start a new thread. That's why I virtually never get to start a new thread - somebody has always beaten me to it, sometimes up to a year before the movie or TV show debuts (which is kind of ridiculous, but them's the rules).

To be fair, AVS's Search Function is not very good.

Although the latest iteration of the AVS UI has given us a much improved search function, it still leaves a lot to be desired. In fairness to Arch's point, though, I have found that these days searching first frequently has brought up the thread(s) I was looking for.

Not an excuse but I did contact the AVS powers-that-be because I've been having problems posting and perusing the site. The same thing with my daughter's math worksite. All the other websites I visit...not a problem. I'm about ready to change browsers to see if that does the trick.

I use IE, but also have Chrome (which is pretty good IMO).

Got Explorer but thinking of changing to G-Chrome. Got it on my laptop and don't have the same problems.

Although not quite as sophisticated (which may be a good thing) as IE, Chrome works just fine.

I was forced to switch to Chrome as my browser over a year ago after IE suddenly stopped opening hyperlinks (it opens a new tab, but doesn't load the page - infuriating. I'm running Win7). Have no idea why - virus? Even updating IE to the newest version didn't help. I like IE better, but you gotta' do what you gotta' do.

That's weird.....

FWIW, I have had to reinstall Windows when IE went into the toilet.
I have Windows 8 now, which is supposedly more secure from threats.

Staying OT - smile.gif

I went back to Firefox about a month ago after using Chrome for a year or so. Chrome got so bogged down it would take way too long to open sites and ads were showing up everywhere. When I would clean things up with SUPERAntiSpyware and Advanced System Care, I would get tons of crap to be removed. Firefox has an ad blocker you can download, and now when I use those tools I get almost nothing. Plus, it’s so much faster. I’ve found that sooner or later they all seem to get bogged down and then I switch until I find one I like. For now, Firefox is a dream.

You can try

----> Tools> Internet options> General> Tabs> Restore Defaults

If that doesn't work

  • Quit all programs that are running.
  • Click Start, and then click Run.
  • Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
  • When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):

  • Shdocvw.dll
  • Actxprxy.dll
  • Oleaut32.dll
  • Mshtml.dll
  • Browseui.dll
  • Shell32.dll

It is VERY irritating when that stuff happens.
I use the AVG Security Suite or whatever it's called....seems to do a good job.

You can make 8 look and act almost exactly like 7 pretty easily. Even get your start button back. I don't know what they were thinking with 8. I'm not now or ever going to touch my monitor to control the OS. Makes me feel like the monkeys in 2001 touching the obelisk.

See how I brought that back around to movies? smile.gif

Think I may just try alien's recommendation above. I've been wanting to try Firefox for a while now anyways.

Well you cant beat Firefox IMO. I've been using it forever. Just make sure you get it from Mozilla.org so you don't get one with anything sneaky in it.

Thanks for the link! I am looking forward to Edge of Tomorrow but as with all Tom Cruise action films, I am keeping my expectations suitably low. My requirements for any Tom Cruise action picture going in are simple. As long as it's loud, dumb, and has great production values, I will be happy. This one, too, has the added attraction of the never less than terrific Emily Blunt.

Watched a 2D showing of Edge of Tomorrow last night. It's basically Groundhog Day meets Battlefield L.A.

I really need to stop watching trailers in order to enjoy the movie itself, but I probably wouldn't go unless I saw a trailer. What a vicious circle.

Unavoidable for some.

I go out to the movies nearly every week and a trailer for EoT accompanies every, single movie I have seen.

I limit the influence of trailers the old-fashioned way: middle-age forgetfulness.tongue.gif

do the enticing tidbits seen in the trailers merit a $15 investment for a theatrical viewing?

Oblivion showed more tidbits than Edge of Tomorrow. Hardly any slow points just repetition.

I, on the other hand, love my touchscreen laptop. I guess variety is good.

Waiting to see some thoughts on this movie. I like the concept but fear the execution.

First of two reviews I've seen of the movie. Richard Roeper's was a solid "thumb up", too. Looks promising but you know what they say about opinions. rolleyes.gif
