...With Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt leading the charge, it's a must-see and most likely a must-own for me!

Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt star in Doug Liman's sci-fi action movie about a soldier caught in a time loop and fighting against aliens.

If you think that "Edge of Tomorrow" is a kind of generic title, consider that this originally went by the head-scratching working titles "We Mortals Are" and "All You Need Is Kill."

Worst case it looks like it'll be a fun couple of hours, and Emily Blunt has failed to disappoint in anything I've seen her in so far.

I like the website tie-in name: "Live, Die, Repeat." That would have been cooler.

All You Need is Kill is the actual title of the Japanese novel this film is based on, and was the working title until it was changed. The book, by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, is available in English now, and there should be some manga adaptations coming around next year as well.

Yup, it's been nearly 20 yrs that Cruise is still on top of his game and continues to make high quality movies we want to see. Since the mid 80's, I don't think there's another actor/actress that has been more consistent than Cruise..if you can think of one I like to know.

Yup. It's been about 30 yrs that Cruise and has been making high quality movies we all want to see. Top Gun was his 1st biggie but Risky Business came out in 83. Can you believe that, ..30 yrs and still shows no sign of slowing down and if anything is getting better.

There's really no other actor/actress that has been more consistent or lucrative for a movie studio since the mid 80's than Cruise. If there is I surely would like to know.

Tom Hanks, Jody Foster, Johnny Depp, Emma Thompson, Sylvester Stallone, Helena Bonham Carter, Tommy Lee Jones, Judi Dench, Samuel L. Jackson, Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Julia Roberts, Jack Nicholson and not last but the least, Arnold. Whew! I'm out of breath...

But none of them has been as consistent and bankable as Tom Cruise over the years, which was zoey's point I think. Not even Johnny Depp or Stallone or Schwarzenegger. In 2013, who is still the biggest movie star? Tom Cruise - regardless of his personal life.

I’m just talking about “star status”. I like all of the names you mentioned, but what is Judi Dench doing in that list for example? Are we not talking about the biggest “superstars” here? The fact remains that even after his personal troubles from 2005/2006, Tom Cruise managed to recover from it and gave us some pretty good movies to show that he was still there. One of the, if not the, biggest action star from the 80s, Schwarzenegger, has his career behind him now. Tom Cruise is still doing his thing and it still works (granted he’s younger than Arnold, but still…) MI5 is a guaranteed success, this one Edge Of Tomorrow looks good. You get the idea. smile.gif

That still doesn't change the fact that Tom Cruise can still carry a film in 2013 like he did 25 years ago. Which *was* zoey's and I agree with her. That's not the case anymore for most of the names you mentioned earlier. I'll never deny the success and bankability of Tom Hanks or Johnny Depp or Harrison Ford, yet...

It's also the case that the topic wasn't how much money. I haven't done the math but how much of the top five are there in money terms because they were in a small number of exceptionally high earning movies, as opposed to a consistent on-going return. I mean, no disrespect for the guys who played Perigrin and Merry in the LOTRs movies, but 'their movies' have earned like $4B, which I would imagine would put them way above a lot of more well known people.

Not saying that this is the case in any of the one through six slots, just saying it's something to consider.

I think the point is how long a period of time TC's movies have consistently made big bucks.
No matter how you look at it, it is impressive.wink.gif

Then it contradicts the statement, "none of them". confused.gif

Anyway, zoey67 said, "If there is I surely would like to know." so I listed some names.

Stallone and Arnie (I dig both of them, BTW) aren't actors. biggrin.gif They're bankable movie stars. TC is both. I'll give you Tom Hanks. TH and TC could well be interchangeable at #1 and #2.
