A couple of the Kansas City home theater enthusiasts went to the new AMC Prime theater to watch the newest Hobbit Movie last night. The experience was fantastic. By far the best theater experience I've had, and the first movie theater experience I've preferred over my own home theater experience in a long time!

Dolby Atmos is excellent, and the JBL speaker produced sound seemed to be played back at reference levels with no audible deficiencies! There was very obvious accoustic panel treatment over the entire theater. Dolby Atmos is exciting technology that has dozens of discrete channels all over the walls and ceiling. This is not the traditionally matrixed surround sound we've all become used to in theaters!

The guitammer seat transducers were dialed in most excellently, and really added a nice, yet not overwhelming, tactile flair to the material onscreen!

The leather covered electric chairs were frankly too nice to be in a public theater!

The whole experience was Triple A fantastic! If you happen to live near one of the three AMC Prime theaters in the US - JUST GO! There is one in Texas, one in Georgia, and one in Missouri!

https://www.amctheatres.com/amc-prime

I liked the movie experience so much I wish I could go back and repeat the whole experience again on the same movie tonight! Just Excellent! I've been raving about it all day at work.

I really enjoyed the show and theater last night. They have 48 surround speaker, with the ceilings 20 surrounds the same qsc's, and the wall surrounds the jbl cbt series. The largest side surrounds having 12 vertical 5" drivers (another 70JE-1 on the bottom).
http://www.jblpro.com/catalog/general/Product.aspx?PId=419&MId=2

The mains appeared to be some form of the new high powered screen array's, but with more bass drivers than two shown here.
http://www.jblpro.com/catalog/general/ProductFamily.aspx?FId=91&MId=1

It was hard to tell peaking behind screen what exactly the mains and amount of subs up front were, they did have 6 subs in the rear of theater which I believe have dual 18" in each. Thinking back on it two were there before, and now they added 4 more, so I am guessing they moved the rest of the old subwoofers that were up front to the rear in upgraded soundsystem and put a new set of subs up front!

They also have passive acoustic wall treatment which appeared to be 3" thick on walls.

It appeared to have a lot of distortion free output and I was loving it.

The seats are very nice with seperate electric adjustments for back recliner and feet, and I like the shakers, but probably would have liked them dialed back just a tad more.

The new screen is curved and angled up, but when reclining can't tell much. This seems to give a more uniform picture to all seats, and the picture was very nice. They also have dividers between the rows with ~ 9" tall glass at top keeping feet from heads and reducing noise leak between guests.

Overall probably the best cinema experience I have had out of the home. Enjoyed the second Hobbit installment and the new updates to the theater were well implemented.cool.gif

Amc prime? Another version of their etx?

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

Hell yeah. Dolby Atmos is awesome! Saw MoS twice in it in LA.

I wish had a theater like this AMC Prime. That and some Atmos.

Looking at their showtimes it says no showtimes for this Friday. Surely this means they don't have times this many days out, not that it won't be shown in the real 3d atmos prime etc. format?

Here are some photos from the theater. Sorry for the bad quality. My cell phone isn't great and the theater was still really DARK.

I really dug the red LED lighting effect showing off each speaker after the movie ended! (as shown in the last several pictures!)

Damn. Looks like they are phasing out The Hobbit for Anchorman 2 in that room. Tomorrow and Thursday The Hobbit gets 2 early afternoon shows and then done, it's Anchorman the rest of the day. I want to see Anchorman and all but who cares about having great sound/transducers etc. for a comedy?

That stinks. My wife and I just decided to come to Kansas City this weekend to celebrate our 20th anniversary. I already talked her into watching The Hobbit at this theater. Maybe they will change the schedule.

I was going to go watch the hobbit at my local theater in ETX but it seems a non Dolby ATMOS film has taken over the ETX room...comedies in ETX? ...

What frame rate did you guys see? I went to the amc IMAX in Olathe with my son yesterday and saw it in 3d with higher frame rate. By the way, I thought the sound was awesome even without atmos in that theater.

I was looking forward to an evening showing of Hobbit. Not sure why they show Anchorman in a theater like that. Anyway, I bought tickets for the 4:30 showing in Alpharetta, GA. Tickets are pricey but I hope will be worth it.

It's nice to be able to book your seats ahead.

I was planning on going to watch Desolation of Smaug at the AMC Prime screen tomorrow after the Chiefs game, but saw that they were phasing it out for Anchorman 2..so what else to do but make a special trip to KC and watch it smile.gif. Drove over there from Columbia on Thursday and it was absolutely worth the trip. I saw An Unexpected Journey there last year in Dolby Atmos and it was great, but it paled in comparison to the AMC Prime Experience. I was just blown away by the sound system even just looking at it as I walked in; those red LED's on every speaker are just awesome. The transducers in every seat were really on point and definitely added to the experience; it was sometimes tough to tell if I was in a DBOX theater or not! Best cinema experience I've ever had and I definitely plan to make that my go-to screen from now on when I'm in KC. Thanks for the write-up guys.

I completely agree that this bar far the most impressive theater experience I have ever had. 3D, sound, transducers, chair comfort, etc. were all perfect. Loved it man, this is what will get me to go back to going to the theater for movies.

On top of that, I'm really thinking about getting transducers for my HT. I was VERY impressed with how real they felt.

How did you get the popcorn and coke so cheap? In all seriousness though, who can afford to the snacks anymore. I could buy the movie on blu-ray and dinner for a week with that kind of budget.

The AMC Southroads 20 theater in Tulsa was recently gutted and completely refurbished. The job was completed in October. It appears that there is no Atmos audio in the complex but it does have huge reclining armchairs for seating in all theaters but the IMAX. I saw a film there on Friday with my daughter and son in law. My son in law, who is a fellow AV nerd, agreed with me that the seats had transducers to boost the effectiveness of the LFE. I was pleased and impressed with everything about the theater and will be going back soon. As much money as they spent of upgrading the theaters, I can't believe that Atmos audio won't be added sometime.

I just experienced AMC Prime at the Burbank 16. Wow the seats were definitely comfortable. Sound wise it was loud but not the "bad" loud. I loved it! The bass shakers just seemed to be just set right. As for the 3D, it was a dual projection system which was plenty bright. Overall everything was just about right! Will definitely be coming back to it for sure!

We have an AMC theater in Tulsa that was recently retrofitted with reclining club chair type seats with bass transducers. They don't advertise that the audio is Dolby Atmos so I assume its not. Even so, the seats are so comfortable it has become my default movie theater.

Looks like there might be a second AMC Prime in KC. Now one is listed at the 20 cinema theater on Nall. Has anyone tested it out yet?
