After going thru the Writers Guild and the NSoFC awards, one thing jumps out at me immediately....
Inside Llewyn Davis dominated the NSoFC list....AND was shut out of the WG.

You think maybe someone has a bee in their bonnet?biggrin.gif

I watched a couple of TV specials about Inside Llewyn Davis, which made me really want to see it. I want to see every Coen brothers film, of course, but this one really intrigues me. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find anything definitive about the date it will open wide in the US, which it hasn't done yet. Have you seen anything?

Yeah, me too. I found the Wiki article about Inside Llewyn Davis before I posted before. Unfortunately, all it says about the US release is that, the film "will open wide in 2014." Inquiring want to know, when in 2014. smile.gif

IMDB says Dec. 20, but I still don't see where it is in wide release.

My daughter and I were in the starting blocks to See it on December 20. Imagine our disappointment that it opened only in a limited number of cities that day. No doubt it will open here sometime in 2014 but when? Arrg!

She's still cute imo (esp for a gal pushing 70), and I enjoyed her acceptance speech, once it got rolling. :) She seemed genuinely shocked to have finally won, after being nominated 4 times before over the course her somewhat lengthy career.

Post awards interview:

According to IMDb, her first GG nom (for "most promising female newcomer") was in 1969 for The Sweet Ride, an R-rated surfer/biker exploitation flick that screenwriter Tom Mankiewicz described as the flipside of Frankie & Annette. The film costarred Tony Franciosa, Michael Sarrazin, and Bob Denver of Gilligan's Isle. And Sarrazin was also nominated as most promising male newcomer. Movie trailer.

I think Matt D. also deserved a GG for "best sport", as he was (strangely) the butt of several jokes during the course of the evening... beginning with Amy Poehler's quip about him being "basically a garbage person" :) that night (since there were other "more noteworthy" actors there). That was apparently a vague reference to another off-color comment made recently at the NY Film Critics Awards.

Now whether our ignorance about the Razzie nominees is a testament to our good taste or to our simply being out of touch with popular culture is something the two of us can't determine, I suppose. smile.gif

Really surprised Hobbit got nominated over Oblivion for best sound/sound editing. Also Iron Man 3 got nominated for VFX?? I thought the suits looked horrible in the film. No love for Oblivion I guess

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

Must..stop...buying...every bluray release...

I thought the visual department did a damn fine job in Oblivion. Never would have pegged IM3 for a nomination. Must have been all the pretty explosions and loud noises.

Also thought Emma Thompson would get a nomination for Saving Mr Banks!

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

Must..stop...buying...every bluray release...

And Tom Hanks was snubbed...twice! Also, a total shutout for Lee Daniels' Annoyingly Titled The Butler. Thought that one might have gotten an acting nomination or two.

I suppose American Hustle and 12 Years a Slave have a slight edge over Gravity for Best Pic since both got a nomination for Best Screenplay while Gravity did not. Could be a technical sweep for Gravity, particularly in light of its box-office success, and a key handful of wins for one of the other movies for Best Picture. I think the biggest upset would be if Cate Blanchett did not win for Blue Jasmine, but I know Amy Adams has a lot of fans for her American Hustle performance.
