It seems interesting to me that there weren't many comments about the character Ronan and his portrayal by Lee Pace. I personally feel that he was a very compelling and formidable villain and ranked among the top of any villians that I've seen in a very long time. Thoughts?

Had to IMDb Lee Pace. I thought Ronan was a great villain too. At first glance I had visions of Dr. Manhattan and his blue schlong blowing in the wind. I was ready to yell "kids! Shield your eyes."

A fun movie. Caught a $5 afternoon matinee yesterday in Dolby Atmos.

According to Box Office Mojo the movie has moved well past $400 million worldwide.

Will get on Blu-ray since it has repeat playability.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I find most of the current breed of Marvel Comics based screenplays to be sophomoric at best, and GOTG definitely fit that description to a T.

Where do they dredge up these script writers? Yes, there were a couple chuckles here and there thanks to Bradley Cooper's Rocket, but more on the level of a cartoon aimed at kids (not even PIXAR), than anything worth remembering.

I just can't stand going to summer movies anymore... they're just so mind numbingly bad with special effects taking the place of imaginative or compelling storytelling for the most part that I can hardly enjoy them. Thankfully, one of my friends paid for the tickets.

Now preparing to duck.

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

I seriously enjoyed this film. Went to support Karen Gilliham and ended up getting really into it.

Seggers

Mits 73835, Denon X4000, Emotiva UPA5 (triggered), Wharfedale Pacific Evo 40s, CS, 10s, the internet, a NAS drive, a TiVo Series 3 and an Oppo 103 (bye bye PS3). There's also a Wii, but we don't talk about that...

She did and her name is actually Karen Gillan and was one of Doctor Who's perky companions in a previous series. Too bad her character was so thinly written in GOTG. Karen is actually quite a good actress with a solid range (classically trained). She's starring in a new American sitcom called Selfie based on My Fair Lady and its source material, George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion .

If you were talking about that other trash by Disney (Frozen), I'd be inclined to agree with you. I have no idea what the appeal is there, and I hate that "song". I guess one needs to be a 4 year-old girl to get it.

Anyway, Guardians is a really fun movie. I didn't say it was necessarily good, but it's a nice ride, and the songs don't grate on the ears. Not mine, anyway.

Made me think of Mr. Pricklepants asking Woody if he was classically trained in Toy Story 3.

I would expect that GOTG will get an Atmos release. If and only if Atmos does well with these upcoming debut titles, would the studios probably start considering diving back into the well and spending time and money on remixing and/or repackaging their catalog titles that had Atmos theatrical mixes into home Atmos.

How are they going to measure the effect on sales from an Atmos mix?

Hard to tell... unless they're SKU'ing these particular titles differently. They may also look at hardware sales as they did with 3D.

But we're OT, so back to GotG discussion. A movie I thoroughly enjoyed, saw twice, and will instantly preorder on BD.
