Apparently they just started filming this week. cool.gif

...The first Terminator is one of my all-time favorite movies, and in fact I like all the previous films in the franchise, but not equally wink.gif

I know a lot of people hate Salvation, but it showed us this universe from a different angle and that was refreshing. Since Emilia Clarke is the new Sarah Connor, I'm guessing they'll go back in time once again...

[edit]Apparently Arnold is seriously getting back in shape so I've edited my previous comments! smile.gif

Whoa.
I gotta wonder what kind of role Arnie will really have....confused.gif

I just can't see him as an elderly Terminator.

Voice-acting with a healthy dose of motion capture possibly? Can they pull it off and not look all...Trony? Honestly, if they treat the Terminator like they did in the first (i.e. LOTS of scary body language...little actual dialog), it could work.

I cannot see how on Earth, literally on the planet Earth, Arnold could come back as the actual Terminator. As big and cut as Sly has managed to pull off, and as good as Arnold looks in "Escape Plan" with some weathering on that landscape, they just can't hide the age in the skin and the eyes. Totally stoked both guys are back in the saddle, but there is just no way they have Arnold play an actual Terminator.

The scene in Salvation with "Arnold" was completely convincing IMO, so yeah maybe some of that with the real Arnold's voice? I dunno how successful that would be for a central character with a lot of dialogue.

The first Terminator is one of my all time favorites, liked T2 well enough. T3 and Salvation had their moments but generally missed the mark.

For all the great reviews and general acceptance out there that T2 was a great film, I simply couldn't get past Linda Hamilton's over-acting. Pretty much keeps me from ever watching it. Every scene she's in is cringe-worthy.

As far as Arnold in the new one, maybe he'll have a little oil can a la Wizard of Oz Tin Man.

Stephen.

Chances are very good that I was drinking when I posted the above.

I can't imagine him signing on a Terminator project and doing only some voice work though... In Salvation it was never him and they didn't make the character talk. In the new film I'm guessing he has top billing so...

I frickin' hated the KR CGI character.

I hadn't really thought about it much, but you do have a point.
Sarah Connors was very VERY VERY desperate.

The best Terminator storylines (after the original movie) were part of the FOX TV show, 'Sarah Conner Chronicles'. Just sayin'.

It makes every "cancelled too soon" list, at least among serious sci-fi fans.

Slept quite well, thanx. T:SCC is very highly thought of amongst the sci-fi geekdom. For good reason: it was very good. Personally, I'd rather have had more seasons of that show than any more Terminator movies.

I was able to look past him a little easier because he was a newcomer. Only so much a director can pull out of a new kid thrown into an Arnold blockbuster, I suppose. Hamilton's performance should have been dialed way back by Cameron, though. At least in my opinion.

From an MTV NEWS article dated March 25, 2014, "Schwarzenegger Reveals The Secret Of His 'Terminator: Genesis' Character | Arnold reveals his robot will age; and there's more than one of him" (link):
Quote:
"The way that the character is written, it's a machine underneath," Schwarzenegger continued. "It's this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh. And the Terminator's flesh ages, just like any other human being's flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages."

A December 6, 2013, article in The Mary Sue, "A New Terminator Television Series Is On The Way & Will Intersect With The Film Reboot" (link), seems to suggest a "shared cast and story space" with the forthcoming Terminator: Genesis movie. Do we know if that is still planned to happen?

With rose colored lenses...

If this is a future-driven story, I am hopeful it takes the arc of something akin to the recent BSG TV series. Humans manage to destroy the machines fabrication plant(s) for creating new Terminators, H/Ks, etc. Then it becomes a war of attrition fighting the remaining machines already deployed in the field. IF it is a bunch of degenerating, rotting, FUGLY Terminators that look like Arnold, I could buy that I think. I can wrap my mind around that if the story is solid, perhaps if it is just flat out a flash-forward set of scenes balanced out with an origin-type story showcasing the humans capturing the time-portal and sending Kyle and the re-programmed Arnold's back in time.

Do I really think it will be something smart and cool...not really. One can hope though.

I liked The Sarah Connor Chronicles, but it was a very uneven show. The first season and a half were incredibly bumpy. It didn't seem to find itself until the end of Season 2, by which time the ratings were in the toilet and it was too late to be saved.
