The third and final film of the LotR prequel trilogy has been renamed. It will release on December 17, 2014.

Quote:
As we previously reported, Peter Jackson has changed the name of his final The Hobbit film to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Now, Warner Bros. has released the film's official logo.

The film was initially called The Hobbit: There and Back Again, but Jackson changed the name when he felt that that title actually more fit the entire trilogy instead of just the final installment.

Jackson broke up JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit into three films using many notes that Tolkien left behind in his appendices and this final film lands in theaters December 17.

FWIW, I didn't find the 1st 2 installments bad at all.
Although it isn't LOTR, it's still entertaining fantasy.

Looking forward to the final chapter.

So far I have actually really been enjoying the Hobbit movies. Look forward to the third but holy crap the new name sounds awful.

You think "The Battle of the Five Armies" is a worse title than "The Desolation of Smaug"? confused.gif

The Desolation of Smaug is the title of the second Hobbit movie. So ... I don't know if there were any other titles for that movie.

I'm talking about the new title for the third Hobbit movie which used to be titled There and Back Again.

The new title The Battle of the Five Armies sounds worse, imho.

I love the LOTR saga and I really enjoy the Hobbit movies so far. I'm real excited for the next one! I read the book and I feel they are doing a pretty good job representing them. I can't wait!

Having seen the first two in theaters I will be waiting for Blu-ray to see this one - if I ever get around to watching it at all. I'm tremendously disappointed with these films considering LotR may be my favorite movies ever.

I went to the theater for both as well, and I'll go see this one just to be a completionist if nothing else. But I do feel somewhat the same. Let down, based on my like of the LotR films. If the first two Hobbit movies are anything to go by, it would have been so easy to make this into one (long, perhaps) awesome film. There's so much throw away material present it's pathetic. How long do fight scenes have to be?

I'm looking forward to it, because I like these for the most part (even with their flaws). And because I love movie popcorn, a hot dog, and some Junior Mints.

I'll be there because I want to know how it ends - but I'm not crazy about the Hobbit trilogy... I don't care for the characters. The only exciting moments, to me, are the references and reappearances of characters from LOTR...

this is not just one book, its The Hobbit combined with tons of stuff from the 12 books wich are the History of Middle Earth. I for one am grateful that some of this material is seeing the light of day on the big screen.

Peter Jackson at Comic-Con;

Beyond that, he says there’s a chance that he could extend the extended editions of “Lord of the Rings” even further; there are apparently a few scenes that still haven’t seen the light of day, including one featuring young Aragorn and Arwen meeting each other for the very first time.

“We might try to put them back in,” said Jackson, noting that it wouldn’t be easy; all of the “Lord of the Rings” footage is secured “in some nuclear-proof vault” in Arizona, where 7 million feet of film is sitting.

“It’s a big logistical thing,” he said. “But if there’s enough interest from people, maybe they will figure it out.”

This kind of turns things around..

It started with The Hobbit_ The Silmarillion and The Lord Of The Rings were made up after The Hobbit was written.

Tolkien wrote The Hobbit. After that he was asked to write a sequel. In response he provided drafts for The Silmarillion, but the editors rejected them, believing that the public wanted ''more about hobbits''. Tolkien subsequently began work The New Hobbit, which eventually become The Lords Of The Rings.

I don't blame them. Much easier to say Hobbit than it is Silmarillion. And people like easy.

Who's in for The Hobbit marathon at the Max? A full day in Middle Earth. Other chains are having a marathon too. But I figure if you're gonna do it, go big or go home.

I've done the Star Wars trilogy in 1997, The Lord of the Rings in 2012, and I am doing the Hunger Games series this Thursday.

I put in for getting December 15 off, if I get it, I will be at the marathon in IMAX.
