Looks like it could be decent.

It could have used some serious editing, especially one sequence ala Apocalypse Now Redux. IMHO, this is one of those movies that once seen, in whatever format, one never needs to see again. The mood of the movie is somewhat set with the opening sequence that is somewhat artsy, but not to be confused with Lawrence of Arabia. As usual, Brad Pitt delivers, but it just isn't enough to carry the day.

'Ideals are peaceful, history is violent'.

I enjoyed it for the story and acting from the Fury tank group, not for the PQ (unless it was a poor Sony 4k projector or lamp). It was intentional dark and grainy, I assume. However, I would not be re-watching it or want to own it. It is one of the better WWII movies in recent time, totally different from Inglorious Bastards. Never like Shia but he was a nice surprise too.

For a Saturday 11 am showing, there were about 15 people.

Would rate it between 7 and 8.

There were a lot of good things about this movie, but the characters were all poorly drawn. Pitt's is the only one that seems to have some depth to him.

As an added neat little bonus Will Smith was at the screening I saw. He's in town shooting a film about Mike Webster's autopsy.

Found this solid but kind of unremarkable. The tank angle was somewhat novel, I haven't seen tons of war films which have followed that particular perspective, but I mostly found the storyline itself a little too familiar. The hardened leader, the religious guy, the new guy, the pretty girl who dies, the platoon's last stand, I just felt like it was all stuff I'd seen before. The cinematography was wonderfully bleak and I love Ayers' choice to shoot 35mm, thought the grain and texture were wonderful, and performances were solid, I just felt like I'd seen a lot of this before. Apparently LeBouf went nuts on set to get into character, yanked out one of this teeth, cut up his face, and wouldn't take a show, I guess it was contentious between him and the rest of the cast. His off-camera behavior lately has been utterly bizarre. Maybe he's attempting to do penance for starring Michael Bay films . I though his performance itself was solid though. Apparently this used the last working Tiger tank in the world to shoot some scenes.

Based on his latest talk show appearances and interviews, he got his act together now, openly talking about it. A lot of reviews praise his performance in Fury. I've always thought he was a good actor so seeing him destroying his career was a bit sad. But he's back on track now it seems and I guess that's for the better.

Yeah, obviously how much of it was a publicity stunt and how much were issues in his personal life which are none of my business, who knows, but I rather like him. Thought his performance in this was excellent too, deserving of the praise. Gave some nice texture to what was basically written as a more one-note role.

I read a review where it was said that in "Fury" the WW2 was showed as a videogame, unrealistic.

That's what I was hoping it wasn't going to be. I wanted this movie to be more Saving Private Ryan, not another Pearl Harbor.

I'd say it falls somewhere in between. Not as good as SPR, not at hokey as PH. It's more like a tense thriller. I think of Private Ryan as a drama first. Pearl Harbor, while looking amazing, was just shlock.

Totally agree with you on where it falls but for me it's hard to even put Fury and Pearl Harbor in the same sentence.

Watch this last night. A great war movie, certainly up there with Saving Private Ryan without the Spielberg schmaltz. Gritty depiction of tank warfare with images that invoke the savagery of combat. Brad Pitt convincing as the tank commander, Logan Lerman does well as the rookie member of the crew. All of the supporting cast including Shia LeBeouf, Michael Pena and Jon Bernthal are outstanding. Although the ending seemed a little too much it's a very tense war thriller worthy of a watch or purchase. 9/10.

I missed it in theaters and it sounds like a blind buy as well!

...on a side note, it's nice to see that LaBeouf got his act together (always thought he was a fine actor). After seeing him on a few talk shows recently (promoting Fury), he seems to have gotten back on Earth. Several reviews praised his performance in Fury.

He is a good actor, but I wouldn't hire him.
There are plenty of fine young actors out there, why go with someone who can be a problem on set?

Except for Pitt's presence, I have no idea why this lame a$$ movie was green-lighted.
Hopefully, a better filmmaker will make a really GREAT WW2 Tank movie someday.

I rented it yesterday. Glad I didn't blind buy this time! Great performances all around, but the film, as well as most of what touches WWII these days, bored me.
