All the color has suddenly drained out of the world with this news. Especially gold, because that's what Robin turned his work into, whether it was comedy or drama. RIP

Here's hoping the media doesn't play up the cause. Whatever, it's his life.
No need to trample it to the ground. The public loved his gift, so let it go
with some amount of of respect.

I'm likely asking too much in the ERA of stupidity and war.

The most brilliant minds are sometimes the most troubled. Apparently, he was always "on", always in character, as if he was constantly chasing his own larger-than-life persona and felt he always had to live up to the image.

It was said that he took the TV gig 'The Crazy Ones' last year because he needed the money. (It's not hard to speculate why, given his past substance abuse issues.) It wasn't very good in spite of his efforts and was cancelled after one season. Maybe that "failure" was a contributor. Very sad. He'll be greatly missed.

Dear Robin Williams,

Without a doubt, you will forever be one of the planet's funniest people. You spent your life making billions of people laugh around the world and captured our hearts with your humor, humanity, talent and kindness. I learned of my own voice talents through mimicking your brilliant voices and character creations. Reading the news of your departure left tears in my eyes, because I was aware of all the issues you were comfortable enough to openly share. But it's clear there were many you kept within.

I'm not sure what happens when we die, but if there's an afterlife, you'll be surrounded by the best beings that will be eternally entertained. Our loss, their gain.

Thank you for everything, my friend.

Way back in the days of the big ugly dish you could get lots of stuff for free. As a pre-teen fascinated with everything Vietnam I happened across a pay per view channel running Good Morning Vietnam. In those days they would run a certain a movie all day long for weeks. I literally watched it non stop for a week. I didn't get all the jokes but still loved it. Through the years I've revisited it and it never fails to make me hurt my ribs in laughter. I watched last night on hearing the news of his death and sat for the two hours laughing and in awe of his delivery. Then the credits rolled and the room went dark in the absence of the plasma light. I was left with a moment of silence and didn't hold back the tears. The world is indeed darker without him but I can always revisit the laughs anytime and actually look forward to it. Like many before him he will live on through his contributions to cinema.

Such a diverse body of work. We just watched him in The Face of Love two nights ago. I was an avid Mork & Mindy fan because you never knew what was coming next.

I'm stunned at this sad piece of news, truly one of the great comedians have left us.
Despite the sadness we are lucky to have soo many great scenes and standups to go back to.

There was a video on CNN which was a tour of his Napa Valley home, which was up for sale. Maybe substance abuse had something to do with any money issues he might have had, I dunno. But this was a $30M home, on something like 650 acres in the mountains overlooking Napa, and it was a gorgeous place. That's quite a lifestyle and just maintaining it would have been quite costly.

Plenty of famous folks have had to come down from that style of living once their peak years are over, and I'm sure plenty have problems doing that. But, just selling that house should have brought in enough to sustain a comfortable lifestyle for the rest of his life, particularly given that it wasn't like he wouldn't ever work again.

Here is the tour video, BTW. It would be a pretty amazing lifestyle. Give me a nice little music studio and the already present home theater, and I'd be happy to just never leave there.

It was put up for sale in Aug 2012, did the video say Williams had completely paid for it? Otherwise he might of only got a fraction of that $30 million assuming it was sold.

He also was married 3 times, lost a lawsuit for $6.2 (probably lawyers fees on top of that), paid Christopher Reeve's medical bills (not sure about this one) and had stated that the last movies he was in was at scale wages only and the films did not get distributors. In other words for several years what he was doing did not cover the bills of his lifestyle. Mind you at 60 he should of realized his high paid movie days were over.

Not many celebs have that "gut punch" effect upon hearing about their passing. But Robin Williams is certainly an exception IMO.

I remember when Elvis went. OMG I thought the world was going to stop then. There are still people who don't believe he died. Okay......

I was never a really big fan of RW. I could never get into his acting and comedy. That's not to say he'll not be missed or I could care less.

I can never understand why people commit suicide like this. I remember a co-worker at a place I once worked at hung himself in the garage. His wife left before noon and she comes home and opens the garage door and there he was. Later I heard he was suffering from depression too.
