Which movie is this, please?

Years ago, when travelling on a bus, I saw a movie that really inspired me but unfortunately, I could remember neither the name nor the actors, later. I've been thinking about the movie for years but I never had any clue.
This is the story. Sometime in 80's, there is a depression and a black guy with a kid struggles to get a job that will make him very rich. He is completely broke and his wife leaves him with the kid.
Do you happen to know this movie? Thanks in advance.

Need more to go on. It did remind me of a movie I really enjoyed that I imagine the majority of you never heard of. Came out in 2005 which was a great year of movies from what I recall. It's called Roll Bounce with Chi McBride, Xavier Smith (Bow Wow), Megan Good. Usually don't watch majority black movies, due to the ratings being so bad or hearing only bad things, see Tyler Perry Madea, never seen a minute of it. Though at times, rarely, the approach of having others & their opinions simply f off is very beneficial.

It runs on FX every now & then. Next time you're looking for a good view & get tired of searching your library or Netflix I recommend this. Like Jimmy V said in his speech, paraphrasing 'a day spent with time in thought, a few tears, & some laughs is a full & wonderful day

Sounds like it may be The Pursuit of Happyness, as already mentioned (Will, Jaden Smith). It's based on a true story, though the film is pretty sappy because it takes a lot of "artistic-license". A man goes from rags to riches as a successful stock broker with an infant in tow.

"I knew you'd say that"...*BLAM!*
