You guys are making it sound like the sky is falling off a 2 minute trailer. I for one am looking forward to this movie.

About a year ago or so, I've read an interview with Ridley Scott in which he said the xenomorph is done and over with. Now it looks like they are brought back. What do you make of it? I think Ridley caved. For that, I would say this movie is catering to the fans of certain actions and not to the art of movie or certain idea. It may bring a quick gratitude but it won't last like his older masterpiece. Just my prediction...

It's an indication that too many movies are made; there aren't enough original scripts to go around.

When the 'best' source material is 50 year old comic books, you're running on empty.

Exactly, while Prometheus sucked as the final film it's original idea was at least interesting.

To me that's not it, to me it's what gets green lighted. There are plenty of talented screenwriters out there or people with ideas, but they are not the one who decide what gets made.

The Alien franchise was out of gas by #3 but they kept on going with lame brain ideas and the Predator crossovers and such. Now this one looks a lot like the original one with a few "updates". Of course I won't speculate further till I actually see it, but my expectation remains very low. YMMV

Alien: Covenant “Prologue: Last Supper"

The official prologue to Alien: Covenant introduces the crew of the mission as they gather for a final meal before entering cryosleep.

Just to be clear. “Prologue: Last Supper" isn't in the film. Ridley's son directed it as an introduction to the cast.

Given how there is no sight of Elizabeth Shaw, I'm afraid this is how it's going to end.

Getting real tired of Ridley keep on doing this with his films anymore. Yeah, it's cute but I want all this s**t in a concise feature film.

What is the audience to do if they have no seen all these cute lil' bit of 'viral advertising'?

It's not clever any more, but the new audience will never know the difference. He and the studio bank on it and unfortunately win to some degree in their world.

How Alien: Covenant Will Address The Biggest Mystery Of The Alien Universe, According To Ridley Scott

Quote:
Rather than having Alien: Covenant give us all of the answers that Ridley Scott has
been searching for, it instead sounds like the movie will be another stepping stone to
that truth. With Prometheus' Michael Fassbender coming back as David, and Noomi
Rapace once again playing Elizabeth Shaw, we can perhaps guess that they have
some hand in it, but we hardly expect the full explanation to be anything simple.

"but we hardly expect the full explanation to be anything simple"

Read! But you can hardly expect us to produce a real script. We gave up on that Sht
years ago. We gauge the money based on the same BS, OK the usual BS we have for the past
decade ... TaDaa! Money right now and the rest is we know most of the audience has no real grasp
on the story (as far as we are concerned) and so Screw Um'

It'll look fantastic, as it always does with Mr Scott. He and we know how to paste a pile of Horse Manure
onto a money making franchise! Fans of the story are a bunch of weenies - Screw Um!

Am I Right?

Please - Ridley teased us with the statement that he was truly interested in exploring the real mystery of the space jockey and the eggs. OK, so go there! We're all in. Hire a writer who can take us into that world!
It didn't happen folks!

Is Rapace only making a quick appearance? I haven't seen her in any trailers and I thought she was out for this (might have been her exiting Covenant with the rover in the latest trailer).

I'll watch, but have zero expectations outside of being a popcorn flick. So many promises and changes of direction since Paradise/Prometheus was announced. Was so hyped when Ridley returned too.

I am hoping that for once the trailer does not show, and spoil, the whole movie. Maybe Shaw and David have been hanging out in the Engineer annihilation area that was leaked a few years back.

Yeah, I hate when trailers give away too much as well. Speaking of spoilers, Ridley dropped a little spoiler at SXSW.

What I want to know is what happened to Shaw? Last bit of info we had about her character is that Noomi Rapace wasn't supposed to be back, then she was, then it was just a cameo of sorts, then not, then...then what? The ending of Prometheus put her and David in the delicate position of being the major characters of the story, and now she's nowhere to be seen. I hope that she won't just be an old recording playing on an iPad in Covenant...

I typically avoid these things, but I watched that trailer analysis last week from post #37 and it mentions that Rapace/Shaw was
Spoiler!
Furthermore, I watched another one of those marketing videos and David is now
Spoiler!

That analysis also mentioned this might be a reboot/start of another trilogy. I'm completely lost as to what this movie is supposed to be. Thought we were going to see the Engineer home world and that the story would eventually tie into the beginning of Alien (how many crashed Engineer ships are there now??). It's amazing the number of directions this has gone in since they announced Ridley would be returning. Guess I'll just grab my popcorn and not expect much from the story/timeline.
