(WHY) Tim Miller's Untitled Terminator Reboot (2019)

i am 25 years old and I'm already tired of this crap too many reboots and not enough new classics

IMDB - http://imdb.to/2kcmJrB

With certain rights to the iconic Terminator franchise reverting back to Terminator and Terminator 2:
Judgment Day creator/director James Cameron in 2019, the filmmaker is prepping his return to the series.
Cameron is planning to 'Godfather' a 'reboot and conclusion' of the first two movies,
with Deadpool director Tim Miller in early talks to direct. David Ellison,
who bought the franchise rights from his sister Megan Ellison in 2013, is funding an "
exploratory effort" that brings some of the top sci-fi authors together to "find the movie creatively."

Old hollywood is dying a slow cancerous death! It's amusing that they cannot even see it.

Go Netflix!

As long as it's not about Jesus Christ analog John Connor anymore and/or not an unending montage of "homages" to the other movies, I'll be cool.

And be rated-R for pete's sake!

It's a joke really, just intellectually and creatively moribund. Ultimately I guess it had to happen. With a combination of enormous theft of content and the inevitable fact that there are only so many stories that will fit within the completely Pavlovian template required to bring in the masses, it all sort of points in this direction. There are lots of science fiction and fantasy fiction books out there that would make for great movies; but, by the time they are forced into the standard mold, it wouldn't be worth it. There wouldn't be much left of the books that made them unique. So it would just be cheaper to keep making the same movies over and over if you are going to do that.

If it were less expensive to make big movies they'd probably take more chances. But with that kind of money riding on it, they are going to go down the list of well documented buttons and push every one. Yeh, we get that he has to be crucified and suffer for days at the end, but we were wondering, why couldn't he have a funny sidekick?

Ah, something new to be outraged about. Not like the old movies are going to suddenly vanish from your media collection. You'll still be able to enjoy the thought of Judgment Day coming way in the future (1997). Over the course of the sequels, Judgment Day kept getting moved up; the last one being in 2017. http://terminator.wikia.com/wiki/Judgment_Day

So no big shock that 2017 is the year that someone decided to re-think the franchise (dates, technology, etc). I'm glad that the re-boot is being led by Cameron himself and that they're consulting sci-fi authors instead of the usual Hollywood screenwriters. It's been three decades since the first Terminator movie came out and there have been changes to man's relationship with machines; something for those sci-fi authors to chew on. I'm looking forward to what they come up with. YMMV.

They used to. Now it's more of what they reuse.

Storytelling has always been re-use. There's only so many plots and variations thereof. The trick is to freshen it up with new details. Cameron already knows that, considering his two most successful movies had re-used plots (star crossed lovers from different sides of the tracks; white guy goes native). Terminator already has a good plot and great characters. I wouldn't blame them for re-using those aspects while updating the rest to the 21st century.

If Cameron is involved...one does not question. Instant classics are a fabrication of film critics. Classics must stand the test of time.

It isn't so much that they keep re-making the same story/plot over and over again and that I am outraged because of that. (remakes in general)

It's that.... most of the time, they make a rather poor movie than the "originals". Not always but...often enough.

Terminator franchise, for example. Most of agree that one and two are good and even "classic". Some like the third, but a lot don't. I think it has it's moments and has a not-so-predictable ending. Four really had something going for it but they ruined it with several things that I don't need to get into. And the fifth...well, you know very well what I think of it. It's trash.

The older ones still exist, yes but I want more and the other choices available suck. Simple as that.
