I agree. This puppy looks pretty bad.

They have released it twice but they still have note managed to make it anamorphic.

Perhaps in the "Super Platinum" addition.

Don't feel bad. This looks good next to "Blade Runner" and "La Femme Nakita" which are my favorite dogs.

John:

Would that TV be showing the letterbox, or the pan and scan version?

I agree, it looks pretty bad.

Stargate SE - It's a dissapointment. I swear it looks worse than the original Stargate. Maybe my eyes are fooling me, though.

Mark,
It can't possibly look worse than the orignal DVD Stargate from Live. I just watched this movie last night on my brand new ViewSonic 830 at 81" diagonal and it was horrid. In parts of the movie whole segements of the left hand side of the image was missing. A bright line extended down the right hand side during the whole movie. Several artifacts were visible during the movie. I always like this movie on my 27" 10 year old Zenith now is absolutely unbearable. I hope it didn't damage my projector or screen.

It must be bad to beat out La Femme Nikita! The LDs look pretty good DTS or DD...

Sorry

I have the Stargate dvd from Japan (Code 2 with the DTS track) and the picture quality is much better if compared to both Code1 versions.
BTW sound is better too.

If anybody out there doesn't own a version from Stargate on dvd and you don't mind the extra $$$$ buy the Japanese version.

Dave,

The movie isn't the problem; the video mastering and transfers are...

Enthusiasts with LD will be better served buying the DTS LD. Its a great transfer and we all know about the uncompressed audio! I bought new for 10$

I picked this one up on laser disc too (DTS version). It beats the DVD version in all aspects. The DVD version is an awful video transfer.
