No not Dr Strangelove. Although some would consider this his (and Kubrick's) best movie, not me.
For my money 'Being There' is by far his best work.
After Chaplins 'City Lights', this would come a close second in my all time fav list.
I could write a whole page on the appeal this movie has for its fans, and if you've seen it, you would know what I mean.
This masterwork surely deserves a dvd release does it not.
Come on studio's, stop giving us third rate muck and pull your fingers out. Get this movie on the shelves now!
Oh, and while your at it, dont forget 'The Party'. Another brilliant comedy.

Eric, you do have good tastes in movies. I've got the P & S LD, which is unfortuneatly the best thing going. "...I like to watch..." I've never seen THE PARTY. But, I like DR. STRANGELOVE about .05% more than BEING THERE, because of George C. Scott's and Sterling "precious bodily fluids" Hayden's great performances. If you're ever in Asheville, N.Carolina visit Biltmore House, the villa in the film. Oh, and Eric if you see Rafael, tell him I want the DVD too! Have a hippy happy holiday season!

Eric/Racael,

Sympatico. Though I would tip .05% to Being There, even if missile riding & we'll have no fighting in the war room type lines. OK, it's a draw.

Birdy, your precious bodily fluids are obviously contaminated. I have an MD (Minidisc Doctorate), so I'm very qualified to prescribe PGA and rain water for you. Consume for 40 days and 40 nights. You'll be purified, deflourided and feel a little dill. "...shoot it with a gun... that's private property... if you don't get the president on the phone, you'll have to answer to the Coca-Cola company...(bang!shots!)..." "...then it's settled, Chauncey Gardner is our best chance to get the presidency back..." "I wanna know what Gardener was doing there (the house), he knows something..." " saw him on TV last night, I think he's brilliant..." "...if the roots are strong, there will be growth in the spring..."
Tim, do you know Rafael? He's a small black man who knows about DVD releases? How are your fluids, you do know about floridation, don't you?

Rachael,
You've never seen 'The Party'?... I will have to bannish you from the Peter Sellers fan club. How could you. tut tut......
To get back into favour, please follow the following instructions....
Go find ANY rental place that has it on VHS, LD, Mini disc, stone, anything. Go home, switch on, and enjoy the birdie num num antics of this most brilliant comedy.
Be warned however,... dont expect clever black comedic sarcastic cryptic comedy. DO expect some of the most hillarious slapstick side splitting funny moments ever captured on film. Take special note of Sellers pakistani/indian accent. Trully another classic.

Rachael,

I'll get my honky ass down to the LD story to get The Party with you http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif But I've seen it, and would place it with "That is not my Dog" in the Seller's pantheon of slapstick.

I wonder if there are any Strangelove outtakes like the ending credits of being there.

Tim, I've got'z ta see DA PARTY atleast once home boy. I'm gonna ask my LD buddies if they have it. I've seen some Sellers flicks I'm lukewarm on. WALTZ OF THE TOREADORS comes to mind. Is he Birdy in THE PARTY? Is that what all this chirp'in is about? Stanely K. proably burned all the out takes from STRANGELOVE. I hear he didn't want folks to see that kind of stuff from any of his films. What STUFF it must be or was... Eric, do you wear a funny hat and carry a staff? You'd dare to excommunicate me? Sounds like the Spanish Inquesition! Well, it's no use! I have ruby slippers.....

He lost one of his Slippers on an indoor River pool, and took 45 minutes to recuparate.

Then he was trying to talk to a pet parrot in Ghandi accent, over a microphone, without realising that he was operating the Hollywood Producers Home Automation system from Hell.

It is a clasic for party goers everywhere. Youll see.

Just watched another great classic here on 'sky digital' our sat network in the UK. I'm subscribed to a channel called 'Film four' which ONLY shows great movies (and sometimes helps produce them to)
'The Ladykillers' cracked me up, I hadent seen it for years. What a fantastic dark comedy.
Alec Guiness, Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom were outstanding.
Guiness pretty much stole the show with his portrayal of the toothy mastermind behind a zany gang which looked like they belonged in mental hospital. What a scream!

Great news on Strangelove & Being There on the little disk. Anamorphic at least on the former according to Widescreen Review.

Speaking of The Party, it was on last night on AMC (followed by todays continuing Abbot & Costello Marathon - alas no A&C go to Mars or A&C and the Keystone Cops). It was letterboxed (yay) and was quite a hoot.

Speaking of Yabadabadoo, this is one of two reasons I could never give up DVDs big brother - The Flinstone First Years Collection boxed set (where's the rest?) and, going full cicle, A&C Monster boxed set. Great stuff.

Happy New Year,
Tim

Tim, I'm gonna snag BEING THERE. I once made my own Inspector's cut of it, by adding weird TV clips to the film. It was fun, but that tape broke and it's lost forever. I have a decent collection of cartoons on LD, Betty Boop, Mr. Magoo, Rocky & Bullwinkle, The Jetsons, Hana Barbera Classics, The Flintstones, Woody Woodpecker, Tex Avery classics, and I must be forgeting something. I often times show a cartoon before the feature here. I'm a little partial to Boop and Woody. I hope Abbot and Costello come out of the dark ages for you! Happy milleium!

Rachael,

You are the fount of good ideas. Cartoon before the movie. Nothing like Woody before an action flick or Pink Panther before a .... Peter Sellers hit.

Now if you had a newsreel and the dancing hotdog concession stand add to go with the cartoon, you would really be in business.

GREAT idea. Actually just got Underdog on the little discs, great transfer and extras, including some openning sequences to my favorites - Commander McBragg & Go-Go-Gophers.

The best part about this forum is the Highbrow fun http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Best for a new year & hope your Dad liked Eagle has Landed,

Actually Tim, I may soon have dancing popcorn and all the drive-in trimmings. I have pre-ordered THE DRIVE-IN DOUBLE FEATURE, THE SCREAMING SKULL/ THE GIANT LEECHES. It has all kinds of the silly stuff you saw inbetween shows. It even has an alternate audio track that simulates those crappy window speakers and it only comes out one speaker! The DVD was much delayed and finally started shipping, but I heard there is a mastering problem on one segment on all the discs on another forum. I suspect it is/will be recalled. I haven't recieved a shipping notice from Amazon. Someday I expect to get the bleeding thing... Maybe in a month or two. You sound like a serious candidate for this title. Oh, I wish I had Pink Panther and Chilly Willy cartoons! The form of the forum is pure fun! Recuerdos mi amigo!

Well Uncle, I have magic fingers. Atleast I've been told so. How do you handle a hungry man, the man handlers! Tim, we can get this disc eventually. You must be a hungry Jack! This disc has been much delayed as it is. I think it was originally scheduled for November 2000. Uncle, were drive-in theatres ever an item in the U.K.? Did you ever have the priveledge of having sex, eating junkfood, and viewing a sleezy film simultaneously? It's not fried, it's Shake'n'Bake and I helped! Best'est cats!
