I've been trying to find out when/if Fern Gully is going to be released on DVD. In my searching, I found a site that has it on VCD. My Toshiba 5109 is supposed to handle VCD's. My VHS copy looks absolutely horrible, and I can't find any reference that this movie is slated any time soon for DVD release.

Would you buy the VCD in this case as a stop-gap measure? And please no responses about buying LD vs. VCD. I don't have a LD player, have no plans to buy one. But from what I read, the VCD is somewhere between VHS and DVD in terms of PQ?

Hello,
I don't know the size of your TV but if it is anything over 27" I would not bother with a VCD. It is below VHS in resolution. It has much less video noise but does not look as good as VHS on TV's over 27". Also DVD players for some reason do not play VCD's as well as a VCD player. I have a Magnavox CDI-VCD player and it is much better at playing VCD's than the three DVD players I have. The DVD players are choppy and produce a lot of artifacts.

Thanks. Considering I've got a 56" widescreen, probably not a good idea. Guess I'll just keep watching those "coming attractions" and hope it ends up on dvd someday soon.

I bought the Star Wars bootlegs from China and they really do suck.

I hope Lucas changes his mind soon.
