Last weekend, we bought and watched The Emperor's New Groove, the Disney DVD. That little red devil on Kronk's shoulder keeps giving my display serious problems!

It looks all jagged and you can see all the scan lines, especially when the little thing moves! I recalibrated using Avia and The Perfect Vision article about video to see if that would fix the problem.

No dice.

I am an amateur as far as video goes, though I know more than the average Joe. I wonder if this problem couldn't be traced back to some sort of bad transfer, since I have never seen this problem on any other disc or on any other colors beside deep red on that specific disc.

Suggestions?

What kind of player do you use? You sure it's not the infamous chroma bug? If you use a HTPC could you take a screenshot of the problem because as I don't have that particular disc it's difficult for me to figure out what kind of artifact it is.

I don't have a digital camera at home, but I will try to bring home the work Mavica and snap a pic.

I don't know what the "chroma bug" is, but I wondered about that. The player is an M301, entry-level Samsung. A very weak unit, I must say.

Could someone explain the "chroma bug" please?

Frode, thanks for the link. I believe the diagnosis is correctly:

Chroma bug

I assumed that my built-in doubler on the RPTV was the issue, but nothing else (only deep reds and blues) look really bad. I examine pinks and purples and it is not an issue.

I am bidding on a Panasonic RV80 right now, so maybe I can lick this problem for a lot less than I thought!

Just bought an RV80 and hooked it up.

It was chroma bug.

Stay away from Samsung's 301 player.
