Recently I purchased The Insider on DVD. Since it has an aspect ratio of 2.35, It will not fill my widescreen tv.

What is wierd is that this is the only DVD in my collection where the top and bottom bars are of unequal size. There is a huge bar on the bottom, and a much, smaller one on the top. All other DVDs in my collection with the same aspect ratio look like they should. I have a Interlaced Sony DVD player (can't remember model number) connected via component cable to a Mits WS-65807. Vertical and horizontal overscan have been set correctly.

Jafo,

Everything your doing is correct. The Insider's 2.35:1 image is just shifted higher within the 1.78:1 frame.

Enjoy,

Thanks, I didn't think that I was doing anything wrong.

Have that DVD. Well worth the cost. Hollywood, but really good. Played ok on my Home Theatre PC. I should view it again on my Panasonic DVD player now.

This is the director's preference for some reason. The Last of the Mohicans is the same way.
