Bad transfer, bummer.

Anyone know if a better transfer of The Quiet Man is coming out on DVD ???

I think the DVD transfer is probably the same as the laserdisc transfer, which was horrible for that medium as well.

I'm sure a new transfer for DVD would help some, but I suspect the problem isn't really so much the transfer as the film elements they had to work with. The video versions are blurry, with the colors seriously off. The grass is brown and purple, and even Maureen O'Hara's beautiful red hair is dull.

I would really like to see a restoration or new DVD version that would show this film as it should look.

Agree the problems seen are likely due to poor elements. I have 200+ disks and this one is the worst by a wide margin. The quality is so poor I would have returned it if I could. I cannot understand why they even bothered to press the disk without doing some restoration work. Seems to me this movie would be a good candidate for digital restoration a la North by Northwest.
