Haven't seen one of my favorites mentioned here.

Green Day's Good Riddance, Time of Your Life.

I love the version from their concert at Milton Keynes Bowl in
England from the Bullet in the Bible Concert dvd.

You can catch an edited one hour version of this amazing concert
on Palladia from time to time.

Don't know if it's been posted or not but bagpipes playing Amazing Grace. I think any guy gets emotional.

I think the music in lost was phenominal. The scores that Michael Giacchino came up with were some of the most powerful songs I've heard in quite some time. :50 seconds on this one.

Hello.......

Slow, sad, depressing maybe just melodic, what is the most beautiful song of all time.

My suggestions are-
Jeff Buckley's version of 'Hallelujah'
'The Drugs Don't Work' by the Verve
'Painted from Memory' by Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach
'I Need You' Marc Anthony.

A rather dark, bitter song misinterpreted as beautiful or touching by the masses, though it probably serves as yet another confirmation of the notion that performance style will typically trump lyrics when it comes to a determination of a songs "meaning".

Mourning the disappearing usage of the -ly suffix. Words being cut-off before they've had a chance to fully form, left incomplete, with their shoelaces untied and their zippers undone. If I quote your post (or post in your thread) without comment, please check your zipper.

I nominate Movie with the HOTTEST girl you've ever seen for a sticky. It has the most views of any thread EVER in this part of the forum. In less than a year its attracted more views than the Concert DVD recommendation thread, and that’s been around 7 years.

When a quick pick-me-up is needed it’ll be readily available.

I agree with the OP that good or great does not equate to beautiful.

My $.02

Whiter Shade of Pale, David Lanz version
I Tried to Leave You, Leonard Cohen Live
Heaven, Bryan Adams
I've Got Dreams to Remember, Delbert McClinton
Bang the Drum Slowly, Emmy Lou Harris
Tennesee Waltz, Emmy Lou Harris
Poncho and Lefty, Emmy Lou Harris (I could probably list a dozen of her songs)
Suddenly Last Summer, The Motels
The Flame, Cheap Trick
The Sound of Silence, Simon and Garfunkel
Get Together, The Youngbloods
Piano in the Dark, Brenda Russell
Stop Running Away, Brenda Russell

Here's a couple of other very pretty pieces. They don't really have the emotional impact of Pachabel's Canon or Barber's Adagio or Elgar's Cello Concerto. But they are very nice.

Been revisiting Cocteau Twins music lately. I'm sure there's gotta be at least a dozen songs worthy of inclusion here, maybe even redefining the category, actually. But where to begin....

For a couple of years, I've been trying to find out who did a certain song.

It would fit into this category as beautiful IMHO.

It was done at least ten years ago. It featured two male voices, who, if I remember right, were stars in their own right, maybe even lead singers from two different rock/pop groups. Their harmony was stunning. They agreed to get together and the result was beautiful. I believe it was a love song and rather slow paced.

That's all I remember.

If you can help, I will be grateful. Better yet, the person who names the song for me, will get the DVD or CD of your choice from my collection of disks I do not like. There are some very popular ones in the collection that are just not me.

Under Pressure - Bowie & Freddie Mercury

Popped into my head since the previous poster mentioned Bowie. I'm sure there must be others, but drawing a blank at the moment..

Scarborough Fair/Canticle - Simon & Garfunkel

I used to listen to their Greatest Hits cassette nearly every night in my adolescence; this ended the first side, and I would almost always fall asleep while it played.

Absolutely beautiful recording.

I would also put Mary Chapin-Carpenter's "In My Heaven" from Between Here and Gone on a short list in this topic, as well as her "10,000 Miles" (from Fly Away Home).

"Under Pressure" by David Bowie and Queen does come to mind first from your description, but I guess you already said that wasn't it. How about "Ebony & Ivory" by Paul McCartney & Stevie Wonder? Much older than 10 years ago and not really a love song, but I can't think of many love songs performed by a male duet.

Members of the same band but is the song you are thinking of "More Then Words" from Extreme?

ROSSO Z, take a peek at THIS list and see if any of them rings a bell.

Perhaps it's that Chris Martin (of Coldplay) duet, #44 on the list of Top 50 Duets.
