They all have a certain grotesgue "look" to them though that is easy to identify as a GDT creation.

Something tells me that his Gollum might have looked quite a bit different had he had the opportunity to work on The Hobbit prior to the RotK trilogy. Now, he's pretty much corralled to a certain look.

Thing is having both GDT and PJ available to help direct Doug jones and Andy serkis means we have two of the best CG/costume actors working with two of the best CG double directors.

Del Toro's imagination in thinking up creatures and unique set designs is pretty much unparalleled in today's pool of directors.

which is why many people support his quest to make a mountains of madness movie(GDT said a few of the creatures in the marketplace were actually absed on Lovecrafts descriptions of the old ones. It's teh things that catch and eat a fairy in the background of a shot. BTW same exact fairies from pan's labrynth.

I haven't heard of Doug Jones' role in the hobbit...who is he supposed to be doing body-double work for? I can't think of any other gollum-like characters in the story where CGI is an absolute must.

Doesn't have to be a Gollum-like creature. It could be Beorn. As long as they don't get The Rock to play him, LOL!

In terms of LFE, size does matter!

I'm pretty sure that role will be going to Ron Perlman.

Saw Hellboy II on Blu-Ray last night ...

Horrible movie. I kicked it out after about 30 minutes ...

The acting and the story and the special effects all left a lot to be desired

Two thumbs down ....

Not so! It's a comic book movie, after all. It's not Shakespeare. Some of the coolest creatures ever to be seen in a movie.

If you didn't make it to the Troll Market you missed the best part of the movie.

Man, the wife and I watched this last night and LOVED it. Not only did we enjoy the movie itself, but the sound and image were great. My wife commented after the movie "That's the best sounding movie we've ever watched".

"The dream never dies, just the dreamer."

From the beginning dialog (when Hellboy is a kid) notice how his mouth movements didn't match up with what he was saying? The filmmakers just kept relentlessly filming crap like that until i dove for the eject button.

I'm not asking for Shakespeare here but if it was at least live up to the first would have been just fine. Instead we got a silly creature fest with a dumb-ass story line.

Hmmmm...I didn't notice that.
Was this the DVD or the BD?

I also prefer HB1.

Ordinarily, it isn't.
In this case, I feel much of the crittering is somewhat gratuitous...or an effort at showing off Del Toro's SFX shop.

I did like the idea that the "prologue" was told using wooden dolls [or what ever their correct name it would be] instead of live action, which would make it too much like LOTR. I thought it was clever, and probably saved a ton of money too.

this was about 1000x better than the first one...The first one absolutely SUCKED, and I was hesitant to watch this and waste 2 hours of my life, but Del Toro seems to have gotten a lot better after Pan's Labyrinth.

He gets better with every film. For my money he's the best fantasy film auteur since the late, great George Pal.

He really does.

Other than PJ, he is the PERFECT guy for The Hobbit.
No doubt PJ will give him all the tools he will need to pull it off well.
Can't wait for its release.

Blind buy on BD but after two viewings decided to put up for sale on Amazon.com. Had some good moments but overall not a keeper for me. I totally disliked the woman who played HB's wife. She was totally unecessary in the first one and this one too. Also she did not add a darn thing to the movie but a waste of screen time. I hope they extinguish her for part 3.

Ms. Blair is very...uhhh...nice eye-candy.
And a reason to re-watch this series, IMO.

You see, gals see each other differently than we do.
Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) played an important role towards the end in this movie.

She wasn't actually his "wife" was she? If so, we missed out on a heckuva ceremony!

Hell, boy, I watch Kath and Kim just to watch Selma. Not only is she a prime fox but a woman with skillful comic timing. I suspect her best years are actually ahead of her.

I admit to a certain crush on Selma too. She's blessed with youngish looks. I remember when she starred in "Cruel Intentions" as the naive little underclassman when she was actually 4-5 years older than the rest of the cast.

Shame she never learned how to act. You'd think she might take a class or something, if she's going to continue inflicting herself on movie audiences.

Meeyoww!

I don't think she aspires to play Miss Julie. But I still feel she sends up the spacey Valley Girl type to a tee.

She's blessed with youngish looks.

And remember there is just eight years difference between Selma and Molly.
