I'll start with The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. Although this was released in theaters I never heard of it until I (fortunately) rented it. Great story, great acting, completely unconventional.

Not sure if this is a well known movie or not, since I NEVER see it on TV, but "We Own the Night" is a great movie. Very dark feel with a fantastic cast.

Maybe Hurricane Joaquin made me think of this LOL

I love Passengers as well, IMO a criminally underrated movie, and I also love LOST. This may sound like a rant but to this day some people don't understand the ending and that makes me both sad and mad.

Who has seen Forest Whitaker as Ghost Dog, the Way of the Warrior. While not a best movie, still unique and enjoyable. Probably, the only english speaking movie ever in which a classic Japanese martial arts philosophy was beautifully read aloud during the film.

It's a very good movie, but it was pretty widely discussed at the time, which is how I came to be aware of it and bought it.

Ah, yeah, I didn't go through this entire thread. It caught my eye when it came out and saw it on opening day, when ever that was.

Oh, no, I didn't mean in this thread. I meant also back when it came out. It was pretty widely discussed back then. I guess nothing that JJ has ever done has rate as widely appreciated, but Ghost Dog was sort of his 'breakout hit'.

The science of sunshine was woeful, but as a human drama it was quite interesting and had a lot of atmosphere.

Glad to hear it. This movie has a host of great qualities, from the great cast and acting to the great clarity of its black and white look. One other thing that I also remembered as well is how well the Jazz vocalist was recorded during the movie and during the closing credits. I remember seeing it at the theater and hearing how great the vocals sounded, it once again made me wonder what speakers where behind the movie screen, which of course use horns in their design. Which was another reason that led me to buying speakers for my home that also use horns.

That's a very good one indeed. Proof that you don't need nothin blowin up real good or lots of F/X (or even color) to create a very compelling movie.

I thought it was a better version of Taken.

I agree, The Man From Nowhere (2010) is a terrific action thriller. I thought that the actor who starred as the pawnshop owning mystery man of action and the little girl who was his neighbor were both out of this world. Thanayong Wongtrakul, who played a menacing assassin was also terrific. Oddly, Wongtrakul is Thai but spoke only unaccented American English in the film. Mostly, though, he didn't speak at all. Does anybody know anything about the guy?

The film was directed by somebody else I had never heard of, Jeong-beom Lee. The guy does good work. The film was visually stunning and much of the story was told through the film's visuals.

The Man From Nowhere is currently available on Netflix streaming. Highly, highly recommended, 8 Stars out of 10.

Some of the best sci fi I have seen a in a long time. First saw this maybe two years ago and it is amazing. Nightwatch and Daywatch! The arc from beginning to end is epic, especially if you understand the ending to Daywatch and it's impact on both films.
