Without question, one of the best movies I've ever seen. Not one of the best comic book movies, or action movies, or Batman movies, but one of the best movies period. The acting from every single person on screen was impeccable and helped create a living breathing emotional world that you were swept into whether you wanted to be or not. While Heath Ledger gave an absolutely mesmerizing performance, it didn't upstage any of the other performances at all. Nolan did a perfect balancing act between the Joker and the other characters. Although, because of how interesting the Joker was, you longed to see him on screen more, and I'm sure part of that was because you know this is the last time you will see "this" Joker.
One thing I was not prepared for, was how emotional of a ride this movie takes you on. Not just for the obvious reasons, but because the movie is just that good. Every character is fleshed out appropriately and the world is a living breathing entity on it's own, and because of the brilliance of Ledger's performance, you can't help but feel a huge sense of loss and also of being cheated. After sitting through most of the movie, I felt genuinely sad that I can't watch him in anything new. This as well as his performance in Brokeback Mountain solidify him, at least in my book, as an actor that was unquestionably gifted and worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as the best actors of our time. I can only imagine what he would have shown us as time passed.
I cannot recommend this movie more highly, not just for anyone that's a fan of the genre, comic books, action movies, summer blockbusters, whatever. It's a damn near masterpiece. No, in my eyes, it is without question, a masterpiece.
I LOVE MOVIES!!!!!!!!!!!!
