What in the world is going on here? I just watched Kill Bill Vol. 2 tonight, and the distortion with the twangy guitar during the scene where Beatrix kills Bill was outrageous. I frankly was not sure whether my Monitor Audio system was blown, or something was incredibly wrong with the DVD. Can anyone tell me if the distortion was on purpose or if my system is actually blown?

Thanks much.

No distortion here either, though given the deliberate funkiness of most of the Kill Bill musical selections, I suppose a better way to say it would be that it doesn't sound any differently than the soundtrack would lead me to expect.

So either I'm:
1: Freaking out over nothing as the guitar is meant to be that twangy sounding

or

2: My tweeters are actually blown.

Okay, there might not be distortion - but the guitar does sound really twangy, right?

I think Beatrix never learned the move which kills Bill and in fact they are both faking the situation so they don't have to kill each other.....Bill doesn't want to kill Beatrix so pretends to play dead....the scene that follows suggests this is what happened.

Thanks ccotenj....got it

As any fan or even casual observer is sure to know, QT has a fascination for vintage genres of film history as well as period provincial musical stylings. That opening selection of KB had me reaching for the remote to cut that hideous raw rasp-file-on-the-eardrums garbled distortion. There are some great sonic snipets in that film, so it became obvious he preserved the horrific condition of some original songs to convey the flavor of the era. Not sure I remember the specific number referenced however.

There was just a bit of "crackling" if that's what you're refering too [DTS], which was probably due to mastering this too loud. While this was noticable, it wasn't all that bothersome IMO. Many of the music cuts on Tarantino's films are less then stellar in quality, mostly because of their age.
