CHICAGO, December 19, 2001 - WGN-DT will broadcast the Tournament of Roses Parade live on New Year’s Day beginning at 10am CT in high definition television (HDTV) on its WGN-DT signal, Channel 19. The parade will be provided by sister station KTLA. Viewers who have HDTV receivers will be able to view this special broadcast in Chicago. All other viewers will enjoy WGN-TV’s regular programming.
It’s a New Year’s celebration more than a century old-a festival of flowers, music and equestrians unequaled anywhere in the world. For 55 years, millions of Southern Californians have brought in the New Year by watching the Rose Parade on KTLA.
For its HDTV coverage of the Rose Parade, KTLA will utilize state-of-the-art digital equipment including Paul Allen’s Action Sports and Entertainment Mobile Television (ASEM) with Sony HDC-900 and HDC-950 cameras. KTLA will provide viewers with optimum quality AC3 5.1 and Surround Sound audio signals to accompany the vibrant images.
Digital TV (DTV) is a new broadcasting technology that uses digital signals instead of analog signals. The new transmission format offers the viewer a wider aspect ratio (16:9) with clearer, sharper images. Programming on WGN-DT is available only to those users utilizing a digital television set. WGN-DT began transmitting on January 5, 2001 from atop the Sears Tower.

Thanks for the great news, Amy!

Any chance to let Dish or HDNet get ahold of this, like the Cubs game?
