Just wondering (since i've never seen and they dont have it here in Hong Kong) how HDTV works ?. HBO in HD for example; how do they send/air in HD ? (Do they have special versions of the film, on special storage media for HD or how does it work ?).
Using HBO-HD as an example, a 35mm interpositive film print is transfered to a high-definition digital videotape using a high-definition solid state film telecine. The tape is played-back and uplinked via digital satellite for retrieval by distributors suich as cable and DBS satellite companies who in turn distribute the signal to viewer homes via digital high-defintion transmission. This is a grossly over-simplified description, but by reading the FAQ you'll getr more detail on how HDTV is implemented.
My DVD Collection GO CHIEFS, WILDCATS, SUNS, DIAMONDBACKS, COYOTES, RATTLERS, AND LUMBERJACKS! "Asking if an HDTV is too big, is like me asking you if the diamond on your wedding ring is too big." -- My dad's response to my mom's question about my 65" HDTV.
No; i've seen the Japan HDTV version in shop, recorded in someway but no HD is aired over here. Checked with cable TV that air HBO for example and they are going Digital now but step by step so no idea when my area will get. Even if Digital i guess not for sure HD but one would at least hope that the hardware is in place then.
Is it possible to record HD transmission; what media is able to play back HD and would it be worth it over DVD ?. Any plans anywhere to bing out HD sales of movies etc. on some medium ?.
