Oz HD broadcast resolutions are not much different
from yours in the US except for the old 50 vs. 60 Hz
HD = 1920 x 1080i/50 *
*(but usually 1440 x 1080i ex Sony's HD-Cam format limit)
also: 1280 x 720p (still awaiting official Oz HD ratification)
or ED: 720 x 576p (standard for most up-converted SD)
& SD: 720 x 576i .(multi-view or multi-channelling)
Bandwidth = 7Mhz at bit-rates per total mux up to 23Mbps!
(They get the 23Mbps by fudging the guard interval I think?)
TX power output on Band 2 VHF = around 50Kw ERP
TX power output on UHF freqs. = around 250Kw ERP
My domestic set is a European 50Hz W/S set fed by a
Zinwell ZTD 310SD STB via S-Video (a humble set-up!)
At work I'm using either a Sony $30k 16:9 HD monitor fed
direct from 2 x Sony HDW-700 HD-Cam VTRs @ 1.3Gbps via
a HD-SDI interface or in the office I've got a DGTEC HD STB
feeding a Loewe 16:9 W/S domestic set scanning at 100Hz.
There's not many domestic HDTV sets about at present, most
people are using Front Projection, XGA PC monitors or plasma
screens which are very damn expensive here in Oz until some
more Oz CE manufacturers get their act together with a few
local spec. HD CRTs?
Early days here and the 'anti' HD forces are quite vocal and
powerful but we live in hope of a better HDTV future?
Cheers from 'down under',
